Job Summary

Assets:

  • Previous experience working on trains or within similar transportation services
  • Experience in the hospitality or tourism industry
  • Conversational skills in languages other than English

  • Ability to complete all required training including Alberta Transportation Rail Sections 1 3 6 and 7
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Must arrange your own transportation as the Park often operates outside of regular public transit hours
  • Required to wear a provided historical costume/uniform and maintain its appearance
  • Submission of a media consent form as this role may participate in media events
  • Availability for weekday and weekend shifts including occasional extended hours or overtime during the summer season


Work Environment:

  • Primarily an outdoor and onsite position working in all weather conditions
  • Physical demands include frequent walking standing pushing pulling crouching and climbing between train cars and platforms
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position including repetitive lifting of up to 20 lbs
  • Exposure to noise chemicals smells and common allergens such as hay pollen and dust
  • Working in a busy environment with frequent interruptions and potential involvement in emergency procedures

Join the team at the train station of one of the largest living history museums in Canada! As a Train Conductor you will use your passion for customer service to deliver an outstanding first impression for our guests as they begin their journey through history. You will be an integral part of the crew on the Heritage Steam Train ensuring every passenger has a safe and memorable experience.

In this role you will oversee the boarding traveling and disembarking of hundreds of passengers each day. Working under the guidance of the Head Conductor and reporting to the Chief Train Operator you will facilitate the smooth operation of the train in accordance with historical and safety guidelines. You will act as a park ambassador providing visitors with an inviting orientation to the various attractions activities and events available. Beyond operations you will engage passengers with stories about the history of trains and their vital role in the development of Edmonton. Your commitment to safety is paramount as you will follow specific transportation guidelines and procedures to protect all visitors. Ultimately you help bring history to life while maintaining a clean orderly and welcoming environment for everyone on board.

  • Oversee the safe boarding and disembarking of passengers including specific procedures for passengers using wheelchairs
  • Provide excellent customer service and engage passengers with the history of the railway
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the train coaches
  • Monitor equipment and report any malfunctions to the Chief or Shift Engineer
  • Follow all Alberta Transportation guidelines and Heritage Steam Train General Operating Instructions
  • Assist with day-to-day routine department decision-making and escalate customer concerns when appropriate
  • Support an inclusive and safe workplace culture and assist with organizational diversity initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
