Cloudflare SME

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cloudflare Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the design implementation optimization and support of Cloudflare services across our global infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical expert with deep knowledge of Cloudflares product suite including CDN WAF Zero Trust DDoS protection DNS Load Balancing Workers and related security/performance tools.

This role will partner closely with security networking DevOps and application teams to ensure highly available secure and optimized digital experiences for customers and internal users.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Engineering

• Design and maintain Cloudflare architecture for enterprise scale applications and networks.
• Lead deployment configuration and tuning of services including:
  • Cloudflare CDN & Caching
  • Web Application Firewall (WAF)
  • DDoS Protection
  • Zero Trust / Access / Gateway
  • DNS & Load Balancers
  • Cloudflare Workers & Pages
  • Bot Management & API Shield
• Develop Cloudflare policies rulesets and automation workflows aligned with security and performance best practices.

Operational Support

• Serve as primary escalation point and subject matter expert for Cloudflare platform incidents.
• Troubleshoot issues related to traffic flows WAF rules routing policies SSL/TLS Workers scripts and DNS.
• Conduct performance analysis and recommend caching and content optimization strategies.

Security & Compliance

• Create and maintain WAF rule sets firewall policies bot management configurations and Zero Trust access policies.
• Collaborate with security teams to implement guardrails aligned with organizational compliance requirements.
• Monitor threats mitigate attacks and lead Cloudflare-related incident response.

Governance & Best Practices

• Maintain documentation for architecture runbooks configurations and operational standards.
• Conduct training workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Guide cross-functional teams on Cloudflare adoption and optimal usage.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5 10 years of experience in network security cloud infrastructure or web/application delivery.
• Demonstrated expertise with Cloudflares enterprise product suite.
• Hands-on experience with:
  • DNS architecture
  • Layer 7 WAF tuning
  • CDN and caching optimization
  • SSL/TLS management
  • Zero Trust and identity-based access
  • DDoS threat mitigation
• Proficiency with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
• Strong understanding of network protocols (HTTP/S TCP/IP TLS BGP).
• Experience with automation using Python Bash or similar scripting languages.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools (GitHub/GitLab CI/CD monitoring platforms).

Preferred Qualifications

• Cloudflare certification(s) (e.g. Cloudflare Zero Trust Cloudflare Certified Developer).
• Experience with Cloudflare Workers and serverless application architectures.
• Background in SRE network engineering or cloud security engineering.
• Exposure to multi-cloud environments (Azure AWS GCP).
• Experience with API gateway security and API lifecycle management.
