Embedded Systems Research Engineer Secret Clearance Niskayuna, NY

Job Description Summary

Summit Technologies Inc. is seeking an Embedded Systems Research Engineer to join our team of technology enthusiasts to the energy transition for a more sustainable future. You will have the opportunity to architect and develop state-of-the-art embedded systems for real-time controls and industrial communication applications. You will lead and contribute to R&D projects that are aligned with GE Vernovas energy businesses such as Renewables Gas Power Power Conversion Hydro and Grid Solutions. Moreover you will have the opportunity to shape pursue and execute R&D efforts in partnership with U.S. Government Agencies such as the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DOD) universities and national labs. Technologies developed under these programs will be matured and transitioned into GE business products. This role is based in Niskayuna N.Y. where you will be expected to work in the office 5 days a week. Candidates must be eligible for a Government Secret Clearance.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Develop FPGA solutions for embedded systems and industrial control systems (ICS).
• Leverage FPGA design tools to develop simulate test and optimize real-time embedded systems.
• Shape and pursue external opportunities with U.S. government agencies such as the DOE and DOD.
• Work with GE businesses to help transition real-time embedded controls and communication systems from early-stage lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.
• Collaborate with universities industrial consortiums commercial partners and others to advance the state of the art in embedded systems.
• Publish technical papers file patents and contribute to open-source communities.
  

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or related disciplines OR Masters degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of industry experience OR Bachelors degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
• 2-5 years of experience with FPGA/SoC design and development experience with Verilog and VHDL.
• 2-5 years of experience of knowledge of Xilinx and/or Altera devices tools and ecosystem (e.g. ModelSim Intel Quartus Xilinx Vivado etc.).
• 2-5 years of experience with the development of real-time embedded applications and systems on microcontrollers FPGAs x86 and/or ARM processors.
• 2-5 years of experience of strong embedded programming skills (e.g. C/C C# Python etc.).
• 2-5 years of experience with Linux build systems (e.g. Yocto).

Desired Characteristics

• Active/current U.S. security clearance
• Experience writing firmware and with low-level programming (e.g. microcontrollers).
• Working knowledge of real-time operating systems (e.g. QNX RTLinux or VxWorks).
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as hypervisors Docker containers etc.
• Experience with CI/CD technologies (e.g. GitLab Jenkins etc.).
• Working knowledge of Linux driver and/or kernel development.

Eligibility Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Bachelors level for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening. Ability to maintain a U.S. security clearance prerequisite for clearance is U.S. citizenship.
• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna NY.

Security Clearance
