Why is this role important

The Digital Strategy and products department is looking for an experienced Release manager to help our growing teams. The Release Manager will be responsible for release planning scheduling execution of software deployments for both app and mobile platforms.

This role will lead the engineering practice processes and technology solutions in the release management domain. Your mission is to guide the teams to successful deployments and on best practices to continuously improve the practice. How you will make an impact:

You are an experienced release manager looking to apply and build your skills in:

  • Planning and Coordination: coordinate with product teams their product manager or product owner ATL (Agile team leads) through clear communication. All teams contributing to the release have clarity about the content and schedule of releases.

  • Leading the Release Process: This includes scheduling controlling and executing the delivery process. You are responsible for the release management lifecycle which involves managing releases across multiple platforms (web and mobile apps) and across mission teams / value streams.

  • Post release monitoring and management: you design and implement monitoring processes by working with product teams and quality engineers. You help manage risks and manage issues from releases.

  • Continuous Improvement: you continually work towards improving the release process finding and resolving gaps in automation. You speak for the quality of our practice by conducting release readiness reviews design and execute ways to measure success of our releases.

  • You will work closely with technical leaders whom you lean on for technical advice. You will also collaborate with quality engineers devOps and infrastructure architects to integrate their products into release management. You will operate in a complex environment where there are dependencies between code bases libraries and products.

What you bring to our team:

  • Two or more years of experience in release management.

  • You have developed your career from a software development background.

  • You are able to demonstrate your experience in both hands on and management in designing and implementing release management processes. We believe in creating that practice we believe in automation and we believe in continuous improvement. Therefore we are not looking for someone who just pushes buttons.

  • You have experience in complex application releases and orchestrating integrated deployments. You are knowledgeable in automation scripting and controlling the release process.

  • You have experience working with a variety of stakeholders with a balance of firmness to push releases forward on schedule and flexibility to allow for some exceptions for instance when preparing for special events.

  • A problem solver and excellent communicator who takes ownership of the work they do see problems as opportunities and share new ideas. A dynamic individual who loves to learn and connect with others. Excellent interpersonal influencing and negotiation skills with strength around tact and diplomacy.

  • You have knowledge of infrastructure development and development related concepts. You are familiar with at least one deployment platform for containerized applications (e.g. OpenShift EKS) and at least one repository build and deployment platform (e.g. Bamboo GitHub).

  • Possess a degree in engineering (applied science) computer science science or related discipline delivered by a recognized university.

Assets for this role:

  • Have worked with Agile and DevOps practices including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

  • Experience in the media industry.
