Senior Communications Specialist BDS Media Relations

Boeing is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist BDS Media Relations to join our Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) External Communications team. This position will serve as a spokesperson for BDS and a contact for media while also helping to shape and advance external communications strategy for the business unit.

The BDS External Communications team serves as strategic advisers responsible for developing and delivering impactful communications that effectively convey our mission and values to global audiences.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the BDS and Global Communications teams to develop and execute media plans strengthen critical media relationships and effectively respond to a diverse group of reporters. They will have a strategic mindset take initiative and demonstrate good judgment in developing effective messaging to drive market-shaping stories.

The candidate must be experienced at working with national and trade media and skilled at managing competing priorities and tight deadlines. This professional will have a deep knowledge of media channels and will partner with communications specialists and digital strategists to share our stories through traditional and new media platforms.

This position allows the selected candidate to be based out of one of the following locations: Berkeley MO; Hazelwood MO; Arlington VA; El Segundo CA; Huntsville AL; Oklahoma City OK; Seattle WA; Renton WA; Everett WA; Wichita KS Titusville FL or Ridley Park PA

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary media spokesperson for BDS managing media inquiries and developing strategic messaging for the business units diverse portfolio of products and services

  • Lead the creation and execution of media relations strategies that align with BDS objectives including proactive outreach and engagement with key media stakeholders

  • Collaborate with communications colleagues and subject matter experts to identify emerging issues and opportunities adjusting strategies as necessary to maximize impact

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with regional national and trade media ensuring timely and accurate coverage of BDS initiatives and stories

  • Manage the drafting editing and distribution of press materials including press releases media advisories and company statements

  • Advise and coach company executives on effective external engagement strategies and media interactions

  • Monitor media coverage and analyze results to inform future communications strategies and improve outcomes

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors degree or higher

  • 5 years of experience in Media Relations or external communications

  • 5 years of experience influencing and building strong relationships with stakeholders and partners across teams

  • 5 years of experience applying verbal and written communication skills including spelling grammar punctuation form and style proof reading and editing skills

  • 5 years of experience working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines

  • 5 years of experience with Microsoft office suite

  • Experience with producing writing and editing multiple communications deliverables such as news releases statements RTQs feature stories speeches videos social media etc.

  • Capability to work independently and with a cross-functional team

  • Willing and capable to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing and communication plans based on business objectives and campaign goals with a performance-based mindset

  • Experience working with national and trade media with a track record of building and maintaining effective media relationships

  • Demonstrated willingness to harness resources to tell stories in new and innovative ways

  • Sound judgment in managing crisis communications and high-profile situations and leading strategically complex high-value and high-impact projects

  • Understanding of the defense acquisition process and familiarity with Department of Defense products/platforms
