Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center Portage Alaska

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is looking for a creative motivated and wildlife-loving Sales & Marketing Intern to join our team for a paid internship. If youve ever dreamed of putting your sales and marketing skills to work somewhere that includes bison traffic jams and the occasional photobombing porcupine this might just be your place.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Director of Sales & Marketing the Sales & Marketing Intern supports AWCCs mission by helping create compelling content supporting events and assisting with day-to-day office operations. This role blends creativity with real-world sales and marketing experience and provides plenty of opportunities to grow your professional skills (and maybe your photo library of moose).


Duration & Logistics

Full-time Seasonal. Position available May 1 2026 September 30 2026. Wage is $14 per hour. A valid drivers license is required for this position. Workdays and hours assigned by the Director of Sales & Marketing will vary by week; up to 40 hours and 4 days per week maximum 10 hours per day. Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.

Key Responsibilities


Video Creation & Digital Content

  • Film edit and produce short-form videos for social media the website and promotional campaigns.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes moments animal spotlights and guest experiences.
  • Assist with storyboarding and brainstorming fresh content ideas.


Social Media & Live Streaming

  • Host or assist with live streams on platforms such as Instagram TikTok and Facebook.
  • Help manage daily social posting engagement and trend monitoring.
  • Support the development of social media campaigns and audience interaction strategies.


Event Support

  • Assist with planning setup and execution of AWCC events.
  • Support facility rental events such as luncheons weddings and corporate dinners.
  • Provide day-of event support including guest coordination and promotional tasks.
  • Capture photos and videos during events for future marketing use.


VIP Tours Media Relations & Film Crew Support

  • Assist with scheduling preparation and hosting of VIP Site Tours.
  • Help coordinate with media outlets for interviews on-site coverage and promotional opportunities.
  • Support film crews and production teams during on-site shoots ensuring smooth logistics and adherence to AWCC policies.
  • Assist in gathering information preparing materials and escorting media as needed.


Copywriting & Content Development

  • Write clear engaging copy for blogs email newsletters social posts and marketing materials.
  • Assist in updating website content as needed.
  • Support the creation of signage brochures and other visitor-facing materials.


Office Administration

  • Provide general administrative support for the Sales & Marketing team.
  • Maintain organized files digital assets and project workflows.
  • Assist with partner communications tour scheduling and other operational tasks.
  • Answer the main phone line and respond to incoming messages.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong interest in marketing communications digital media or a related field.
  • Experience with video editing tools (e.g. CapCut Adobe Premiere Final Cut).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently take initiative and manage multiple projects.
  • Comfort on camera for live streamsor the willingness to grow into it.
  • Positive attitude and flexibility in a dynamic fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to speak confidently to large and small audiences while professionally representing AWCC.
  • Ability to engage respectfully in a team environment to help achieve AWCCs goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates a professional positive and respectful attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Comfort working around animals in human care.
  • Willingness to actively participate in fun sometimes silly group and team-building activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in drastically changing weather including extreme wind temperatures pouring rain and winter conditions.
  • Ability to work long hours on your feet and walk long distances over uneven terrain while providing interpretive talks and information.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as cleaning and moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work directly with the public and diverse audiences providing information and assistance in a positive manner.
  • Willingness to learn topics of interest to visitors including local history geography geology and more.
  • Must be able to work a highly variable schedule as needed including all weekends early mornings and nights.
  • Strong time and task management skills.
  • Current drivers license.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have received or be willing to receive a tetanus vaccination by the date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.

  • Event planning or customer service experience.
  • First Aid & CPR certifications.
  • Fluency in multiple languages.
  • Denaina language familiarity.
  • A sense of humorpreferably one that pairs well with animal puns.

Compensation & Details

  • Paid internship. Wage is $14 per hour.
  • Full-time summer seasonal position. Preferred internship length is approximately 21 weeks.

  • On-site role at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
  • Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in tourism nonprofit marketing social media event production and media coordination.

Area Specifics and Benefits

  • Portage Alaska is located 45 miles southeast of Anchorage and 10 miles past Girdwood a small ski town. Girdwood has one small grocery store; Anchorage offers the nearest full city amenities.
  • This position has uniform requirements. AWCC will provide specific uniform items including a rain jacket and shirts.
  • Additional gear or clothing for comfort while working outside or during non-working hours is the employees responsibility.
