Were looking for a proactive imaginative and highly motivated Development Advisor to join our Unscripted this role you will conceptualise and develop a slate of original unscripted audio-led series for Radio One with an opportunity to perform across all platforms (including video social and digital content).
Youre someone who lives and breathes the current audio content landscape. Youre excited to hunt for emerging talent brainstorm original concepts and build the kind of pitch materials that get people talking. You arent just thinking about the radio youre thinking about how a great story lives across podcast video social and digital spaces too.
In addition to your deep passion for non-fiction you bring a sharp strategic lens. Youll evaluate or generate new ideas not just for their creative spark but for their ability to align with CBCs strategy goals and reach new audiences. Youre always keeping an eye on domestic and international trends and have a specific curiosity about whats happening in business lifestyle and parenting content.
Youre a collaborator at heart ready to work closely with internal teams and external producers alike. You enjoy working independently and incubating ideas. You have a proven track record in developing and executing high-quality audio programs ideally within a major broadcast or podcasting environment. Most importantly you know and love CBCs content and you can see exactly where the gaps and opportunities are for us to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Format Innovation & Slate Development: Conceptualize a slate of original unscripted series that are audio-first but platform-agnostic ensuring they align with CBCs strategic goal to reach younger diverse audiences.
Strategic Evaluation: Move beyond the creative spark to evaluate ideas based on reach brand alignment and domestic/international market trends.
High-Stakes Pitching: Develop and build compelling pitch materials (decks sizzles or pilots).
Talent Scouting: Hunt for and cultivate relationships with emerging hosts producers and independent creators who represent the future of Canadian media.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with the internal development team and content Producers
Industry Expertise: Stay current with domestic and international trends in unscripted audio including new formats and audience consumption habits. Specific interest in business lifestyle and parenting content is a plus.
Mandatory Requirements
Proven Track Record: Extensive experience in developing and executing high-quality audio programs or podcasts.
The Digital-First Lens: A sophisticated understanding of how audio content translates into video (YouTube) social (TikTok/IG) and digital platforms.
Audience Expertise: Deep knowledge of the media consumption habits in Canada.
Audio Technical Fluency: An understanding of the audio production process including sound design technical specs and narrative structure.
CBC Familiarity: A deep familiarity with CBCs content with the ability to identify specific spaces for growth.
Communication Excellence: The ability to communicate complex creative visions with clarity and to sell an idea.
