JOB DESCRIPTION
Kennewick School District continues to experience a steady presence of refugee and immigrant students and families. While new refugee arrivals are currently limited the district remains actively engaged in supporting refugee families throughout their first five years in the United States and we anticipate that new families may begin arriving again in the future. World Relief historically resettles approximately 250 families per year with the majority residing in the city of Kennewick. Families served have come from countries including Ukraine Sudan Syria Afghanistan Colombia Myanmar/Burma Somalia Iran Venezuela and Cuba. Many secondary students entering the district have had limited or interrupted formal education. This position requires a thoughtful responsive approach to welcoming families and supporting migrants and/or refugees as they seek safety and a new beginning in the United addition to providing strong leadership and vision the liaison will develop and adapt strategies to ensure appropriate program placement and capacity across Kennewick School District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Bachelors degree in social work social sciences non-profit management or other relevant degree.
- Must provide transcripts of the highest degree earned within 30 days of employment.
- Bilingual skills required must pass STAMP assessment in Arabic Karen/Burmese or Pashto.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must have a valid drivers license clean driving record and proof of insurance.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must complete Safe Schools web-based safety program within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Minimum of a B.A. /B.S. degree in Social Work Social Sciences Non-Profit Management or other relevant degree.
- Bilingual/biliterate English and Arabic Karen/Burmese or Pashto required with demonstrated literacy fluency and written communication skills in each language. Skills test will be given.
- A minimum of two years of work experience in refugee and immigrant services.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral to include public speaking and presenting to all levels of constituents; ability to build long-term relationships; and willingness to listen carefully.
- Demonstrated interest enthusiasm and affinity for refugee services.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative flexibility teamwork attention to detail and a positive can-do attitude. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without close oversight but also participate as a team player who will proactively and productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority internally and externally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office applications.
- Available to work some evenings and weekends.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as a liaison between the KSD and families relative to attendance school enrollment health issues tardiness and cultural programs.
- Effectively communicate with students and families regardless of any language barriers or seek alternatives for interpretation.
- Assist refugee families with registration paperwork.
- Communication with schools on new placements provide background information on culture and education levels.
- Training for school staff to learn more about their students and their backgrounds.
- Attending ATP meetings at Westgate and Park Middle School and other impacted schools as they arise.
- Be a liaison for schools and families by creating a system of continuous communication between schools and families.
- Facilitate transportation solutions for students and parents for school attendance and meeting purposes.
- Oversee the school registration process for refugees and families that speak languages other than Spanish or English.
- Attend monthly meetings with community partners (i.e. World Relief and B5)
- Design and coordinate meetings for parent and/or student information or training opportunities for staff and/or families.
- Work closely with Student-In-Transition Coordinator to coordinate services for immigrant and refugee students.
- Promote parent involvement in schools by working with school Action Team for Partnerships at highly impacted schools.
- Assist migrant staff with Certification and Revalidations of Students that are English Speaking Migrant Students.
- Train in MSDR to update data on migrant students.
- AdministerWIDA placement tests for incoming kinder students and enrolling students.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned.
