Job Summary About the Role

Deliver high quality recreation services for residents visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the Districts safety and administrative policies and procedures.

Knowledge Skills & Experience

This position is well suited for someone who is enthusiastic friendly committed to education interest in agriculture and must like public speaking and to engage people in interactive educational/recreational activities.

Required: Two-year degree in Education Interpretation History or Agricultural Sciences OR the equivalent in other work experience. Work record that shows reliability initiative excellent interpersonal skills and productivity. Interest in agricultural science and interpretation. Be willing to continually increase knowledge of agricultural history. Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid State of Illinois drivers license. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and DCFS Mandated Reporter Certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred: Experience working with children is a plus.

Essential Functions of the Position

Park District Cornerstones

  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park Districts safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents colleagues the public PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education and Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services the Agriculture Interpreter shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities. They will offer suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and being ever mindful of the best interests of the St Charles Park District. This position requires the knowledge and ability to:

  • Effectively communicate orally.
  • Work outdoors in a farm setting and in varying weather conditions including inclement and severe weather.
  • Assist with livestock care milking and other agricultural activities.
  • Lead weekend weekday and evening educational recreational programs at Primrose Farm.
  • Assist with preparation for and presentation of any other interpretive or educational activities that may arise including special events summer camps and traveling programs.
  • Become knowledgeable about the culture and agricultural history of the Fox River Valley and the St Charles Park District Natural Areas.
  • Obtain and keep current a Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Assist in the training of volunteers interns and seasonal employees.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties and to support all aspects of the Park Districts safety program.

Marginal Functions of the Position

  • Perform other related duties and/or special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with maintenance and light construction duties as part of daily operations.
