Assistant Band Director

JOB SUMMARY

Assists in administering the instrumental music program for Brookhaven Public Schools. Provides guidance and encouragement to students that participate in the instrumental music program. Promotes close working relationships with parents and other staff. Keeps the Director of Bands informed of emerging issues.

Responsible to: Director of Bands

Qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree in music/music education (minimum)

2. Current teaching license with instrumental music certification from the MS Department of Education

3. Knowledge of all aspects of teaching instrumental music to students

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Works with the Director of Bands to organize and carry out a rehearsal and performance schedule.

2. Coordinates assigned activities with the school/district calendar.

3. Supervises all assigned activities and performances.

4. Assists the Director of Bands in establishing performance and rehearsal requirements enforcing academic requirements and eligibility requirements.

5. Assists the Director of Bands in maintaining inventory.

6. Conducts rehearsals and performances as directed by the Director of Bands.

7. Assists with summer band rehearsals.

8. Assists with all rehearsals outside of the regular school day.

9. Assists the Director of Bands with assigned paperwork.

10. Establish and maintain open communication with students parents faculty and staff.

11. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student needs.

12. Create an environment conductive to teaching and learning.

13. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Bands.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established

by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
