San Francisco University High School
San Francisco University High School (UHS) is seeking a Track & Field Assistant Coach to support a dynamic student-centered interscholastic program. The assistant coach will work closely with the Head Coach and Athletic Department to develop student-athletes contribute to a positive team culture and support competitive success across all levels of the program.
Position Overview
The Track & Field Assistant Coach supports training instruction and supervision of student-athletes. Depending on experience and program needs the assistant coach may focus on specific event areas such as sprints hurdles jumps throws or distance while also contributing to the overall operation of the team.
This is a seasonal hourly position reporting to the Head Track & Field Coach and the Director of Athletics.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Assist with planning and leading daily practices in collaboration with the Head Coach
- Provide event-specific instruction in one or more of the following areas depending on expertise:
- Sprints and hurdles
- Jumps (long jump triple jump high jump)
- Throws (shot put discus)
- Middle- and long-distance events
- Relays and speed development
- Teach proper technique training habits and event strategy
- Support athletes of varying skill levels from beginners to experienced competitors
- Emphasize injury prevention conditioning and safe training practices
Team & Program Support
- Foster a positive inclusive and respectful team culture aligned with UHS values
- Support meet preparation warm-ups and on-site coaching at competitions
- Assist with supervision of student-athletes during practices meets and travel
- Communicate effectively with the Head Coach regarding athlete progress and needs
School & Athletic Department Expectations
- Model professionalism integrity and strong mentorship for student-athletes
- Uphold all UHS league and CIF/NCS policies and expectations
- Complete required school trainings certifications and background checks
- Collaborate with Athletic Department staff as needed
Qualifications
- Previous coaching or competitive experience in track & field (high school collegiate or club level preferred)
- Knowledge of event-specific techniques and training principles
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff
- Commitment to supporting student-athletes both on and off the track
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coaching a specific event group (sprints jumps throws distance etc.)
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience working with high school-aged students
Season
Spring season including pre-season preparation daily practices and meets. Specific dates aligned with the UHS athletic calendar.
Compensation
This is a part-time seasonal position compensated at $27.50 per hour. Hours vary based on the team schedule and include practices competitions and required meetings.
