Responsibilities
- Work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m. during After School Program and Summer Camp sessions; 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. when programs are not in session.
- Maintain cleanliness of the Corps building including but not limited to:
- Sweeping and mopping floors as needed.
- Daily vacuuming and carpet shampooing as required.
- Washing dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork.
- Cleaning restrooms windows blinds and light fixtures as needed.
- Wash and paint walls when necessary.
- Daily cleaning disinfecting and sanitizing of tables doorknobs and light switches.
- Monitor inventory and replenish janitorial supplies as needed.
- Perform exterior maintenance of Corps property including removal of leaves trash snow and ice from sidewalks walkways steps and driveways.
- Assist with program activities by setting up tables chairs and equipment for daily programs and special events.
- Receive food deliveries and donations and store items in designated areas.
- Remove trash and recyclables in accordance with the NYC Department of Sanitation schedule.
- Report any damaged unsafe or hazardous building conditions to the Corps Officer.
- Attend staff meetings and workshops as required.
- Receive store and prepare donations for weekly Salvation Army truck pickups.
- Willingly pick up donations using the Corps van as needed.
- Assist the Corps Officer with seasonal programs and maintenance activities including kettle sign upkeep Angel Tree program support and transportation of volunteers or staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.
Qualifications
- Candidate must have a High School diploma or GED
- Valid NYS drivers license
- Handyman/Tradesman skills preferred
- Working Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment and learning acceptable cleaning methods.
- Must be able to operate manual/power tools in a safe manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Spanish speaking a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
- Physically able to do rigorous manual labor including lifting up to 50lbs.
- Flexibility in schedule and lunch period (especially October through December).
