Position Concepts:
The Aviation Mechanic is responsible for coordinating and assuring the aircraft is properly and routinely maintained and operated and kept in airworthy condition for scheduled and unscheduled events and in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). This position assures all FAR required documentation is kept current and available for inspection.
Education and Qualification Requirement
19 Years or older
Valid Florida Driver License
High School Diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED)
Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from any branch of the Armed Forces
Must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
Airframe and Power Plant Certification.
Five (5) years of rotorcraft experience.
At least six (6) months of aircraft maintenance work during the past twenty-four (24) months
Bell 407 experience preferred
Bell 407 Maintenance Technician Course preferred
Must have FAA A&P license
Must be aware of on call status and will receive take home vehicle
Special Requirement
Possess in-depth knowledge of helicopter operations and functions
Knowledge of navigation equipment and control
Understand the safety practices and procedures of aviation tools
Familiarity of aerial and spatial atmosphere
Strong communication skills to communicate with pilots ground staff passengers etc.
Stay in compliance with federal and state flying regulations
Provide aviation related hand tools
Duties
Report maintenance issues to Aviation Maintenance Lead
Prepare written documents such as maintenance reports etc.
Inspect monitor and evaluate work-related conditions and helicopters to determine compliance with prescribed operating safety and other standards regulations and guidelines including FARs Helicopter Operators Manual and departmental procedures
Operate aircraft tow equipment to move aircraft in and out of the hangar area
Assist mechanics with performing unscheduled maintenance as necessary
Move aircraft and supplies from one place to another using tow equipment and handcarts
Clean work area and equipment such as helicopter and the hangar facility
Work with cleaning fluids and aviation fuel using normal routine protective equipment to clean and refuel aircraft
Resolve operational and other work-related problems related specifically to aircraft operations and personnel
Maintain knowledge of service records and manufacture recommendations
Maintain ability to work as agency representative to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for maintenance required documents
Maintain ability to act as a vendor liaison for maintenance and/or aircraft equipment
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Other duties as assigned

Reports directly to the supervisor
Adhere to laws/agency policy/rules/ regulations/SOP/ procedures
Governed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations
Maintain confidentiality/security of files and information obtained in the course of employment
Maintain continuity and operational efficiency by accurate and timely dissemination of information to Staff and co-workers
Adhere to leave overtime and attendance policies/procedures (i.e. arrive promptly regular attendance at work notification to supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents etc.)
The work consists of varied duties in the operation of an assigned helicopter. Flying in hazardous conditions contributes to the complexity of the position
The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and overhauls of the Sheriffs Office helicopters. Success in this position contributes to the enforcement of federal state and local laws and contributes to the effectiveness of department operations

This position frequently performs such tasks as walking grasping pushing pulling reaching above his/her head and/or away from his/her body bending squatting kneeling climbing crawling lifting and carrying items up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift and carry items up to 100 lbs or more
This position must have good hand-eye coordination works in close proximity to noisy equipment including helicopter engine and has to operate a variety of test equipment power and hand tools associated with aviation maintenance
Communicates effectively with Agency personnel various governmental agencies and the public on the phone in person and in writing while maintaining confidentiality
Effective communication skills: reading writing and speaking English; listening and hearing. The position requires the ability to operate a telephone copier computer (including keyboarding and mouse) to enter retrieve and duplicate information
