GiveDirectly (GD) aims to reshape international giving and millions of lives by providing cash grants directly to the worlds poorest. The Brookings Institution estimates that $70B of cash transfers would be required to eliminate the poverty gap; the aid sector currently spends $135B each year much of it on evidence-free interventions. GiveDirectly wants to change that establishing cash transfers as a benchmark for foreign aid as the index fund is a benchmark for the financial industry and in the process accelerating the end of extreme poverty.
GD has raised over $1B since launching in 2011 delivered cash to more than 1.5 million people in 15 different countries. Location: Stockton California US or San Joaquin County area preferred. Candidates within commuting distance (30 miles) of Stockton will also be considered.
This role is primarily remote with regular in-person requirements in San Joaquin County to support program participants. During the program launch phase (late summer/early fall 2026) in-person presence may be required up to daily. Outside of launch expect in-person work 2-3 times per month in Stockton/San Joaquin County.
Travel Requirement: Travel 2-3 times per year within the US for team meetings and events.
About this role
The U.S. Program Associate will support implementation of large-scale cash initiatives in the U.S. As a critical member of GiveDirectlys U.S. programs team you will support operations internal coordination and team processes. As GiveDirectlys primary on-the-ground representative in San Joaquin County you will serve as the face of the program in the communitybuilding relationships with local partners educating community members about the program and ensuring participants can access the support they need. You will often be the project point person for community engagement and customer service. You will be expected to support Managers and Senior Managers across multiple projects and as a result you must be excited to work in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable managing multiple workstreams at one time. This position will primarily support a guaranteed income program for low-income seniors (ages 60) in San Joaquin County. Youll be working with a population experiencing housing insecurity and economic vulnerability requiring particular sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by older adults. This role is expected to work closely with our program partners including the California Department of Social Services the Housing Institute at Penn the Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin and other local partners.

Compensation
At GiveDirectly we strive to pay our employees generously and equitably. We use an accredited third party salary aggregator to ensure that staffs total compensation package (base compensation bonus) falls within the 75th percentile of similar roles at similar organizations. We also have a no negotiation policy to ensure we are paying staff equitably across roles.
The base salary for this role is $74900 USD / annually.
