  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring leaders to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role is based at EDCs headquarters in Ottawa. Toronto and Montreal Community Hubs could be considered for the right candidate.

Team & Job Overview

EDCs 2030 Vision will support Canadian mid-market companies to bring their vision passion and innovation to the global marketplace.

EDC is seeking a seasoned professional with demonstrated leadership competencies to join our Investments Team. We are an evergreen investment group with over $4 billion in committed and invested capital that invests independently or in partnership with other investors under commercial terms conditions and return expectations. EDC invests both directly into Canadian companies on a minority basis and also through commitments to Canadian and select International private equity funds. We are long-term investors that leverage EDCs multi-product capabilities networks and knowledge for the benefit of Canadian companies and their international growth aspirations.

To build on the success of EDCs program we are creating this role to build and lead a new team that mobilizes data and systems to optimize: i) market engagement activities; ii) investment management effectiveness; iii) the impact of our value creation strategies; and iv) capital management.

The successful candidate will have 10 years of dedicated experience in private equity or venture capital and accordingly will have: i) a deep understanding of the Canadian private equity capital ecosystem: i) experience with equity program governance and portfolio performance; ii) experience with managing equity technology platforms and implementing new software applications; and iii) knowledge of the asset class its participants and practices.

This critical role is a rare opportunity to build the next level to define how data analytics and governance converge to drive investment excellence. Your work will directly shape how we allocate capital manage risk and deliver value across our portfolio.

What you will be doing:

  • Accountable for the capital model including capital flows portfolio allocations and performance benchmarking.
  • Works closely with partners and investment professionals to embed data-driven methodologies that brings measurable enhancement to the performance on sourcing due diligence and portfolio value creation
  • Working in collaboration with EDCs Risk team manage equity program governance and portfolio construction discipline to align with strategy deliver financial performance to KPIs and integrate risk management practices with capital at risk
  • Deliver actionable insights through improved forecasting and program-level reporting and analytics to track effectiveness of capital and value creation strategies
  • Working with internal procurement and technology partners lead the equity programs technology strategy; build the programs long-term technology roadmap ensuring our data and AI capabilities continuously evolve with the market. This includes AI-assisted research tools to enhance prospect identification investment origination and lifecycle management decision-making and capital management
  • Deliver high-impact insights to senior leadership through advanced forecasting scenario modeling and portfolio-level reporting to measure the effectiveness of capital deployment and value creation initiatives
  • Enable the ongoing assessment and valuation of individual investments which includes maintaining relationships with the leads of portfolio investments to provide or coordinate value added support to their growth strategies
  • Performance Management - Oversees the performance and career development of the team to ensure the required capacity and capability to meet organizational goals while being a role model for the culture of EDC. Leverages experience to provide learning development and mentorship to colleagues
  • Demonstrate Teamwork - Works collaboratively and effectively with EDC customers and all internal and external stakeholders

Skills & Knowledge

  • Leadership skills via formal or informal roles to inspire a team with a strong strategic orientation and high levels of performance. Proven experience leading data analytics AI-transformation or strategic finance functions in investment management private equity or a corporate strategy context
  • A strategic mindset strong communication collaboration and teamwork skills with the credibility to engage senior leadership investment committees and investor counterparties alike
  • Track record of building or overseeing investment software platformssupporting strategic decision-making
  • Excellent understanding of priority sectors driving Canadas future prosperity and international competitive position
  • Ability to bridge communication between technical and investment teams
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high level of autonomy and strategic vision

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within the private equity corporate or venture capital investing industry with a demonstrated track record of portfolio performance accountability advanced analytics and systems innovation
  • Demonstrated experience in the ongoing assessment and valuation of investee companies and regular governance/financial investor context engagement
  • Verifiable and active industry network (pension funds private equity family offices etc.) relevant to the execution of the teams mandate
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English) *

Please note that if we are unable to identify a qualified Managing Partner (Level 22) we may consider hiring for the Senior Investments role (Level 21).

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience at an institutional investor or pension fund
  • MBA CFA CPA or similar designation
