Overview

The Department of Surgery Division of Otolaryngology at Childrens Mercy Hospital offers a one-year institutionally funded research position designed for medical students or unmatched Otolaryngology residency applicants. This program offers a team mentorship model with multiple highly productive clinician-scientist mentors robust research infrastructure and diverse projects spanning the sub-disciplines of pediatric otolaryngology - with particular emphasis in population health otology/hearing head and neck VPI/cleft sleep and airway.

Childrens Mercy Kansas City is recognized for its pioneering work in pediatric patient care education and basic and clinical research. Childrens Mercy Kansas City is a 390-bed independent tertiary care pediatric hospital with an extensive catchment area allowing our pediatricotolaryngologyteam to manage the full spectrum of complex cases. The Division ofOtolaryngology part of the Department of Surgery is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric ENT care education and research. Our team manages 20000 clinical visits and performs over 5000 surgeries annually. A fellowship program in PediatricOtolaryngologyand a robustotolaryngologyresidencyprogram are foundational to the Departments commitment to education and training. The divisions research program is robust with access to research coordinators data entry specialists and researchstudents as well as access to the Childrens Mercy Research Institute resources.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have access to supplemental education in research ethics statistics quality improvement methodology qualitative research methods bioinformatics and leadership. The research fellow will work as part of a team including a research coordinator post-baccalaureate researcher medical students otolaryngology residents clinical fellows and faculty. The research mentors have supported more than 25 research fellows in the past and mentees have a strong track record of future academic success. Clinically fellows will gain exposure in pediatric otolaryngology and complex pediatric otology as well as have the opportunity to network and work directly with faculty and residents at the University of Kansas where the mentors serve as faculty for the residency program. The research fellow will have the opportunity to attend and present at one or more conferences in partnership with their otolaryngology faculty mentor.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $15.00/hr but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Childrens Mercy locations and may not work from home.
