Purpose

The UT Austin Office of the Dean of Students is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support student service programming efforts. The graduate assistant will work on the Volunteerism and Service-Learning team primarily supporting events recognition and resources programming. The Graduate Assistant will also support the Longhorn Volunteer Network an initiative which will relaunch GivePulse on the UT campus and help students more easily access and track service opportunities. While exact duties are adjusted to fit the selected candidates strengths and experience this person will be working in partnership with a full-time staff member and a team of student assistants to ensure the successful implementation of all aspects of programming.

Responsibilities

  • Promote usage of GivePulse across all available communication channels; create strategic partnerships with departments groups and colleges to amplify messaging
  • Manage a team of student assistants dedicated to user support including updating user guides and tutorials hosting trainings or attending group meetings for trainings assisting campus and community-based users when they run into roadblocks on GivePulse or volunteer recruitment and leading weekly team meetings
  • Conduct tailored GivePulse information sessions for community partners (nonprofits) campus-based users subgroup administrators and occasionally other universities
  • Support community-based organizations looking for volunteers from UT Austin; grow our affiliate partners list
  • Assist in facilitation of the SERVE living and learning community supporting 30 first year students in service involvement across Austin and getting to know UT Austin
  • Assist in the facilitation and evaluation of training workshops for sponsored programs.
  • Provide support for the VSLs signature programs development efforts and marketing initiatives including the UT Volunteer Fair and Tower Awards.
  • Provide logistical support for VSL programs (may include reserving rooms coordinating workshops/speakers administering surveys/evaluation tools and facilitating team building activities etc.).
  • Attend weekly LVN team meetings along with regular VSL staff meetings and Dean of Students staff meetings.
  • Support Project Advance Austin a program of Texas LEAD connecting with community partners and assisting with administration of academic course for program participants.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience either as a student leader or as professional planning and implementing service events or other student-led programs.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based structure but carry out work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must remain in good standing with the university as a Graduate student.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and implementing large-scale student service programs and events.
  • Nonprofit or community organizing experience specifically in the area of outreach or client/constituent relations.
  • College student advising experience.

Salary

  • $19.33 per hour

Working Shift

  • Nine-month position beginning as early as August 10 (no later than September 4) and continuing through May 31
  • Half-time position (20 hours) at a compensation of $19.33/hour
  • Flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours required monthly for student meetings and service events.
