CIVIL ESTIMATOR
Firma Contracting Inc. is a growing western Canadian based civil contracting company. This is a new position and we are looking for someone that can lead estimates and proposals in Saskatoon.

The Civil Estimator is responsible for monitoring bid sites chasing down bid leads evaluating bid / tender specifications and drawings ensuring that the operations team has a clear understanding of the project scope risks and requirements. The Civil Estimator must follow-up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure that bids are received. The Civil Estimator also assists the Project Management teams in project handoff and startup. Critical for success are the ability to take direction work independently manage time effectively and demonstrate an acute attention to detail.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Monitor bid sites follow up on leads and seek out work opportunities
- Manage the estimating process during tendering phase of all projects
- Assemble accurate timely and well-organized estimates and new project set-up documents including bids construction management design builds cost estimates and control budgets
- Analyze drawings and specifications and determine potential risk exposure
- Coordinate tender process and maintain a good relationship with clients subcontractors consultants vendors end users and suppliers
- Coordinate with senior management HSE human resources and other potential stakeholders in the development of comprehensive proposals
- Attend site meetings bid meetings pre-construction meetings as needed and disseminate project information to the appropriate operations personnel
- Create and issue quotes/proposal submission documents
- Review bid requirements for projects prepare and attend site walkthroughs and project site meetings review and confirm geotechnical conditions draft risk matrix and prepare take-offs
- Assist in creating preliminary budget for all successful tender projects and change order pricing
- Work with project manager for turnover to operations.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years experience of construction estimating on mid to large scale civil construction projects
- Experience estimating underground utility scopes is an asset
- Personable and great at building relationships
- Skilled in negotiating
- Experience from RFQ phase to project award
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) MS Project and Adobe
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Experienced in reading plans and specifications
- Highly organized and collaborative
- Strong communication skills able to delegate and provide instructions clearly with sufficient detail
- Valid drivers licence
