The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music
Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
- BACKGROUND:
This requirement is for a Protestant Chapel Musician to support Marine
Corps Base Camp Lejeune Command Chaplains Office who have the mission
to develop personnel and families of operating forces and the Camp
Lejeune community for spiritual and personal readiness through
ministries pastoral care and the provision for and facilitation of
the free exercise of religion.
- DESCRIPTIONOF SERVICE:
The musician shall perform as vocalist guitarist and/or pianist/keyboard
musician services in support of the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune
Protestant Chapel services and other religious events as determined
by the Marine Corps Base Chaplains Office and is required to support
the missions and responsibilities of the Command Religious Program.
The services shall include but are not limited to:
- Themusician shall coordinate the musical arrangements with the ChapelPastor or Officiating Chaplain prior to conducting any rehearsalsor services. The goal of the musician shall be to lead thecongregation in worship through music in coordination with theChapel pastor or Officiating Chaplain.
- Themusician shall perform up to one services per week not to exceed 52regular Sunday services per year for active duty personnel and allothers authorized as defined in OPNAVNST 1730. ID (ReligiousMinistries in the Navy). Rehearsal times for a praise team or choirshall be conducted during mid-week for adequate practice andpreparation. The Chaplain shall inform the musician of the servicedates and start times. Worship services should last forapproximately 1 hour.
- Themusician will also provide support for up to 20 special serviceswhich may be scheduled during the church calendar year or duringcivic holidays and will be coordinated by the Chapel Pastor. Thespecial services include such events as observance of Holy Daysfunerals memorials and special religious observances. Servicesfor weddings are not authorized.
- Themusician in support of regularly scheduled services and specialevents shall arrive at the appointed place of performance 15minutes before the scheduled event.
- Themusician shall apprise the Contracting Officer (KO) ContractingSpecialist (CS) and Chaplain of any malfunctions of the instrumentsand any required services needed to maintain the instrumentsmusical integrity. Funding requests for necessary repairssupplies and musical literature are submitted by the Chaplain ortheir designated representative.
- Themusician shall notify the KO CS and Officiating Chaplain bytelephone or email when they are unable to perform services due toillness inclement weather or an emergency. Notification for anyof the above examples should be given with as much advance noticeas possible. Scheduled vacations require 2 weeks advance the musician is unable to perform for any reason subparagraph3.7 will be performed in commensurate.
- Themusician shall provide and compensate a pre-approved substitutewhen unable to perform services required as depicted in the jobdescription.
2.7.1
Absences:
Temporary
Substitutions The musician shall after consultation with the KO
CS and Command Chaplain (or his or her designated representative)
and with his or her concurrence provide a qualified substitute to
render the services specified in this contract whenever it is
necessary for the musician to be absent. The musician shall
compensate the substitute. All Absences will be reported to the CS/
KO for further KO determination.
2.7.2
PermanentSubstitutions
Should it become necessary for the musician or the musicians
employee to leave the position covered by this contract a permanent
substitution must be made. Official notice of pending departure must
be given at least 14 days in advance of leaving. The musician must
find and provide a qualified person to take over the duties required
by this contract. The new person to perform the work must meet all
the qualifications in the contract and be approved by both the
Command Chaplain and the Contracting Officer at least 30 days prior
to the end of performance by the original musician or musicians
employee. The new musician or musicians employee must also be
capable of being qualified to work on a government contract.
- PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENT:
- Mustbe able to sight read music and play a piano or keyboard.
- Familiarwith liturgical and contemporary worship service formats.
- Individualshall have at least a minimum of two years of experience playing ina church congregation.
- Abilityto sing and play liturgical and contemporary Christian music.
- Abilityto lead Protestant Christian faith group music services.
- Anaudition is required as part of the interview and hiring process.
