Job Summary:
Assists with a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Open Lands and Trails Division. Major emphasis will be in the areas of native landscape management and general maintenance of properties facilities and trails. Work schedule includes weekdays weekends holidays and split shifts. Part-Year work from April to November. 40 hours per week during the operational season.
The salary range for this position is:
Maintenance Worker Level I - $16.00 - $19.00
Maintenance Worker Level II - $18.00- $22.00
These ranges based on qualifications and experience.
This opportunity will remain open until filled.
This position is a ten (10) month max part year 40 hour per week position with Medical coverage benefit option only.

Essential Functions:
Level I
- Assists with maintenance and stewardship of Citys natural areas and trails.
- Removes trash and debris from open land sites.
- Cleans and maintains natural area sites and facilities.
- Assists with construction and maintenance of soft and hard surface trails.
- Controls noxious weeds through mowing herbicide spraying and other techniques.
- Assists with wildlife habitat improvement and restoration projects.
- Provides stewardships and education to the public through field contacts.
- Assists full-time staff with maintenance duties.
LEVEL II:
- Performs maintenance and stewardship of Citys natural areas and trails.
- Cares for native plants.
- Removes trash and debris from open land sites.
- Cleans and maintains natural area sites and facilities.
- Construction and maintenance of soft and hard surface trails.
- Controls noxious weeds through mowing herbicide spraying and other techniques.
- Assists with wildlife habitat improvement and restoration projects.
- Provides stewardships and education to the public through field contacts.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists with department projects as needed including special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School graduate or GED required.
- College College level course work in natural resource or a related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 18 years of age at time of hire required.
- Level I: 1 year of work experience in labor service parks landscaping natural areas or trails maintenance required.
- Level II: 2 years of work experience in labor service parks landscaping natural areas or trails maintenance required.
Certifications:
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Current State of Colorado Department of Agriculture Certified Operators License in the category of Rangeland preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Use basic hand and power tools and operate a variety of power equipment used for trail and natural area restoration and maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of indigenous vegetation wildlife and range management concepts in Colorados semi-arid climate.
- Ability to work in outdoor environment.
- Communicate and take direction both verbally and in writing.
- Work effectively with a team or individually.
- Develop and maintain dialogue and positive working relationships with the public special interest groups and City staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills.
- Works as an effective part of the division and City team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility in a positive manner and by taking initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Frequent moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g. 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
- Frequent exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
- Occasional strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g. 50 pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
- Occasional exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
