Job Summary

Position Summary

Provides public safety and security support to students employees and visitors at all campus locations. Ensures the physical security and safety of the campus grounds and facilities. Patrols the grounds monitors the schools CCTV cameras works special events respond to incidents and aides College administrators and local authorities as necessary.

This is a floater position which will report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position.

This position is designated as Emergency/Essential Personnel by Blue Ridge CTC and is subject to scheduling or call-up during weather-related closures emergencies or on an as-needed basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will perform the following:

  • Performs foot and vehicular patrols of interior and exterior locations on campus.
  • Monitors the surveillance camera (CCV) and alarm systems.
  • Monitors access control.
  • Reports any illegal misconduct crimes suspicious activity/persons or hazards on campus to supervisor or appropriate authority.
  • Responds to recognized or reported emergencies (Rapid Response Team-medical emergencies evacuation of campus interpersonal conflict).
  • Provides customer service to visitors staff and students-information about campus functions.
  • Summons assistance by two-way radio or other devices.
  • Prepares student and employee IDs and issues vehicle parking permits (Main Campus).
  • Annotates log book and promptly and thoroughly completes incident reports.
  • Provides safety escort services.
  • Opens and closes College facilities based on the Colleges operating schedule and assists in campus lock downs.
  • Provides parking lot and traffic assistance based upon need or assignment.
  • Performs daily mail pick-up and delivery when assigned to the Tech Center.
  • In the absence of the primary & secondary Receivers acts in a tertiary this capacity is certified by the college to receive all packages destined for Tech Center recipients.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED

Experience:

  • One-year serving in a security law enforcement or similar position including service in a branch of the US military community preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of Basic Security and/or Law Enforcement principles similar to those acquired while serving as a member of a local county state federal or military law enforcement agency or equivalent post within a private security entity.
  • Skilled in Report Writing;
  • Oral and Written Communication;
  • General Computer Skills;
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations that arise and maintaining a calm but deliberate presence when dealing with emergency situations.
  • Diplomatically deal with a diverse range of clientele and liaison with local law enforcement and other first responders is critical.

Licensure/Certification Required

  • Valid drivers license required.
  • CPR/AED Certification preferred.
  • Training in the use and deployment of OC Spray preferred.

Physical/Work Demands

  • Incumbents will be required to possess the capacity tosuccessfully perform certain physical activities and possess sufficient use of ones extremities to walk during patrols;
  • Standing for long periods while assigned to a fixed post;
  • Climbing stairs and entering restrictive spaces;
  • Visual acuity that permits the incumbent to observe and accurately identify individuals and vehicles on CCTV surveillance cameras and to complete incident reports.
  • Incumbents shall possess sufficiently good vision as well as effective hearing and speech so as to engage in a coherent communicative exchange.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
