This role offers a genuine opportunity for a senior estimating professional to play a key role in building market presence winning work and shaping the pre-contracts function within a growing NSW operation.

Our client is part of a large diversified civil construction group with a national footprint and strong in-house delivery capability across plant equipment and construction teams. The group delivers civil construction structural concrete and enabling works for council private development and major infrastructure projects supported by specialist divisions in equipment hire materials supply recycling and sustainable construction solutions.
With offices and operations across multiple states the business brings significant resources and experienced teams to deliver complex projects for public and private sector clients. As the NSW operation continues to grow the business is investing in senior capability to strengthen its local presence and tender success.
The role
Based in Newcastle the Estimating Manager will report to the General Manager and work closely with construction and commercial teams. The role will lead estimating activities across council and private sector civil projects and manage a small estimating team.
While there may be opportunities to move into larger state infrastructure work in the future the current focus is on local council and private civil construction including enabling works and civil packages for building developments.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of accurate and competitive tenders for council and private civil projects
- Review tender documentation and develop pricing and submission strategies
- Manage and mentor a small team of estimators
- Engage directly with councils clients and consultants during the tender process
- Actively follow up tenders and seek feedback to improve win rates
- Negotiate where appropriate and pursue additional opportunities beyond the initial submission
- Improve estimating processes systems and market knowledge
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost efficiencies that may influence tender outcomes
- Support the growth of the NSW business through strong market relationships
About you
This role will suit a commercially minded construction professional who is comfortable operating in a growing market and understands the importance of relationships persistence and follow-through in winning work.
You will bring:
- A qualification in Civil Engineering Construction Management Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- At least 10 years experience in senior estimating or construction management within civil construction
- Experience pricing and delivering council and private civil works including building platforms and enabling works
- Proven experience leading and developing a small team
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- A proactive approach to following up tenders and chasing outcomes
- Knowledge of the NSW civil construction market
- Experience with Expert Estimation is preferred
- Willingness to work from or travel regularly to Newcastle. Relocation support is available
