Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the unit manager and in accordance with established policies and procedures this role is responsible for monitoring and reporting EKG alarms to the registered nurse as well as collecting and filing monitor strips in patient charts. The position also performs various clerical duties to support the efficient management of patient medical records and the smooth flow of patient care. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary to ensure optimal unit operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor patient EKGs as directed by the assigned Registered Nurse; promptly report alarms to the appropriate RN.
- Mount label and file monitor rhythm strips in patient charts.
- Answer and initiate telephone calls with physicians admitting departments other hospitals and internal departments as needed; relay messages to nursing staff and physicians.
- Respond to patient call lights; take and relay messages to patients physicians nursing staff and other employees; page staff and keep the unit manager charge nurse or supervisor informed of any issues or concerns.
- Prepare gather and review charts records and documents; handle all clerical tasks related to patient admission transfer and discharge. Notify relevant parties (e.g. admitting housekeeping) as needed.
- Maintain the nurses station by stocking supplies placing and unpacking supply orders and obtaining manager signatures on purchase requisitions; assist in maintaining the care area as needed.
- Welcome and direct visitors providing routine information regarding hospital and unit policies and procedures with a customer service focus.
- Accurately and promptly transcribe physician orders into computer systems and unit records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Skills: Current BCLS certification and completion of any unit/hospital-specific education requirements. Must possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with hospital staff patients families physicians and external contacts. Must be able to observe monitor screens for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Successful completion of a dysrhythmia course with a minimum passing grade of 85%.
Physical Demands
- Must be flexible and able to work varying schedules as patient census and staffing needs change including overtime and extended shifts as necessary.
- Ability to move freely throughout the work area sit walk or stand for extended periods transport patients and handle physical tasks such as lifting files or reaching for records.
