Position: MongoDB DBA
Location: Sunnyvale CA or Austin TX
Work Mode: 100% Onsite (5 days/week)
Duration: 6 Months (Contract)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced MongoDB DBA to design implement secure and manage enterprise-scale MongoDB environments. The role focuses on replica sets sharded clusters security (X.509/TLS) Ops Manager and performance tuning with exposure to AWS migration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design install and configure MongoDB replica sets and sharded clusters based on application requirements
- Configure and manage MongoDB Ops Manager (BRS & Ops Manager)
- Onboard replica sets and sharded clusters into Ops Manager
- Implement MongoDB security enhancements using X.509 and TLS authentication (Apple security standards)
- Configure SSL key files across all mongod instances
- Automate backup restore and monitoring using Python and Shell scripting
- Add/remove replica and shard nodes as needed
- Create and manage indexes including text indexes
- Select and optimize shard keys for even data distribution
- Convert replica sets to sharded clusters for scalability and performance
- Perform MongoDB upgrades and migrations (4.0 to 4.x)
- Deploy migrate monitor analyze and tune MongoDB databases
- Perform query performance tuning at both database and host levels
- Document MongoDB installation operations security and auditing across environments
- Support MongoDB cluster migration to AWS
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience with MongoDB replica sets and sharded clusters
- Hands-on expertise with MongoDB Ops Manager (including upgrades groups and projects)
- Deep understanding of:
- MongoDB replication architecture
- Change streams
- Query plan architecture
- Performance tuning
- Experience with range-based and hash-based sharding
- Strong knowledge of authentication and authorization including X.509
- Linux platform experience
- Scripting experience in Python and/or Shell
Nice to Have
- Prior experience migrating MongoDB clusters to AWS
- Exposure to large-scale enterprise MongoDB environments
