FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to promote and encourage parent and family engagement in Title I schools to improve school readiness academic achievement and graduation rates. It is also to empower parents and families to positively impact their students learning outcomes by providing services supports and activities to increase their knowledge and skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans coordinates and/or facilitates and assesses a variety of parent family engagement activities based on stakeholder input such as required meetings and workshops and other evidenced based strategies aligned to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Sessions may be for all parents and families enrolled at the school or smaller groups specific to grade levels subject areas or student groups such as Students with Disabilities or English Learners.
- Plans coordinates and/or facilitates and assesses with the assistance of parents and families professional development opportunities for school staff on topics including but not limited to: incorporating the value of parent and family contributions; inviting collaboration with parents and families; communicating and working with parents and families as equal partners; implementing and coordinating programs; and building partnership between parents and families and the school.
- Uses data from multiple sources such as surveys (school district and/or state) and school level evaluation data to identify and address potential barriers to parent and family participation and to assist with planning parent family engagement opportunities.
- Fosters relationships with community networks and external partners and work collaboratively with them to provide learning opportunities that develop/enhance parent and families knowledge and skills.
- Maintains and sustains regular communications with parents and families in a language and format easily understood and accessible to build home-school connections and inform parents/families of school activities and resources to support students learning.
- Ensures compliance of the school and districts parent and family engagement program with all federal guidelines including opportunities for input to the Title I plan school PFE policy and home school compact.
- Assists the principal with maintaining records and documentation of PFE activities reports/surveys PFE funding and communications to parents to meet Title I components
- Remains up-to-date with ESSA requirements adult learning principles and strategies to build capacity of parents and families and school staff.
- Encourages parent and family involvement in education by collaborating with parents teachers and the schools leadership team to foster a caring family-friendly school climate.
- Provides supplemental support to the school-based team by helping to identify resources and working to engage parents/families to address student needs and to help remove barriers to learning such as attendance and access to social services.
- Participates in school-based meetings related to student needs as appropriate to assist parents/families in understanding impact on student learning and helping to identify solutions.
- Please note that duties for the EL Parent Family Engagement center around specifically helping our parents of our English Learners (EL)
- Additional tasks as assigned by the principal and allowable under Title I Part A of ESSA.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ASSA) specifically Section 1116.
Knowledge of various community school and governmental resources to assist parents and families support students learning and academic success.
Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word Excel and others applicable to the work performed and various social media platforms.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with parents and families with various backgrounds.
Ability to utilize multiple formats to promote parent family engagement.
Ability to identify potential barriers to parent family engagement and determine appropriate solutions.
Ability to clearly communicate in both written and verbal forms (composing editing word choice expressiveness clarity) with teachers administrators volunteers parents and families and community partners.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Psychology Social Work Counseling Education or another related field
Minimum: One year of experience working with students and families of diverse populations
Minimum: For the EL position Bilingual/Biliterate is preferred
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Drivers License is required.
Pay Grade 65 - Pay Rate $1577.11 Monthly - Part-Time 50% - 10 Months
