Job Summary

Defence Intelligence Capability Assessment (DI CA) Maritime Inf TSA 3 produces technical threat assessments on a broad range of adversary maritime platforms to support policy and procurement decisions and ongoing operational activity. The post holder sits within the Maritime Underwater (UW) team which consists of 15 desk officers delivering against enduring Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs).

The DI CA-Mar Inf TSA 3 is responsible as the analyst for the timely coordination production and dissemination of quality intelligence assessments of current global maritime activity of the navies of interest. The post holder is also responsible for supporting the timely production and dissemination of quality intelligence assessments of the global maritime infrastructure for naval forces for countries identified in the DI Priorities List (DIPL). He/she is one of DI Capability Assessments (CA) Maritime Target Systems Analysis (TSA) desk officers. TSA supports the development and ongoing validation of UK offensive targeting capabilities under the direction of MSE and PJHQ.

PURPOSES

The primary purpose of TSA3 is to provide global assessments and support to operations on maritime activity of naval forces where there may be an actual or potential threat to UK interests or which could result in the deployment of UK forces. Inf TSA 3 is to collect record and analyse intelligence relating to current global maritime activity collaborating with UK and allied agencies in managing sharing and prioritising effort to produce and disseminate high quality analytical products in a timely manner. TSA 3 is also tasked with assisting in the collection recording and analysis of intelligence relating to military maritime infrastructure through collaboration with the UK and allied agencies to produce and disseminate high quality analytical products in a timely manner.

In support of the above DI CA-Maritime Inf TSA 3 is to:

  • Act as an All-source analyst using specialist skills and experience leading and managing lines of analytic effort prioritising and making best use of resources to ensure the delivery of key outputs.
  • Build Subject Matter Expertise for the underwater threat in the Sub-MENA and ROW maintaining a high level of situational awareness using all resources available. Act as a senior expert across the defence community.
  • Ensure intelligence gaps relating to the underwater threat in the Sub-MENA and ROW are identified; actively seek to fill gaps through conducting research and tasking collection following the relevant processes guidance and legislation. Drive the innovative exploitation of data.
  • Critically evaluate information and a range of critical and creative approaches and techniques to process information and answer customer intelligence requirements. Maintain and develop analytic skills. Act as a tradecraft champion and create an environment where analysts seek to improve tradecraft and test and challenge each others judgements.
  • Deliver and communicate high quality impactful intelligence assessments (verbal and written) that adhere to the Professional Head of Intelligence Assessments Analytic Standards and DI guidance. Provide quality assurance within the Maritime team and across the wider intelligence analysis community.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with a wide spectrum of customers both domestic and international and ensure intelligence output is aligned to their requirements decision-making processes and timelines.

ACCOUNTABILITY & AUTHORITY

  • Inf TSA 3 is accountable to the through DI CA-Maritime UW Sub-ROW in fulfilling his/her primary and secondary tasks and subject to the functional authority of other designated posts and personnel as dictated by matrix managed tasks and assignments.
  • DI CA-Maritime UW Sub-ROW has functional authority administration and divisional/reporting over DI CA-MAR Inf TSA3. DI CA-Maritime UW Team Leader will act as 2 RO.

Inf TSA 3 is authorised to:

  • Represent UW TL in his absence on topics which have been specifically delegated in support of their primary and secondary purposes.
  • Sign and release internal and external communications (including loose minutes routine letters e-mail faxes and signals) of a routine nature in support of his/her primary and secondary purposes.
