Job Description:

Position Purpose:


The Financial Accountantmaintainsthe accuracy of the general ledger and sub-ledgers prepares complex reconciliations and journal entries and oversees financial statements for assigned ministry units and clients. This role serves as the primary contact for resolving financial reporting issues and supports process improvements within their area of responsibility.

This is a temporary part-time contract position.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and sub-ledgers including reconciliations accruals prepaids bank reconciliations and timely transaction processing.

  • Prepare and analyze financial and analytical reports regularly reviewing financial statements to assess accuracy cash flow fund balances and budget performance.

  • Ensure all transactions are properly authorized supported by documentation recorded in the correct accounting period and compliant with organizational policies.

  • Manage client and ministry unit relationships as the primary accounting contact resolving financial statement issues and providing clear guidance and explanations.

  • Support budget development and variance analysis for ministry units and internal departments escalating financial risks or concerns as needed.

  • Assist with year-end accounting processes and ongoing financial reviews to support organizational reporting requirements.

  • Manage government reporting and compliance including tax rebate claims and CRA charitable filings (e.g. T3010).

  • Train and advise staff students and clients on financial work methods; monitor client financial health; and handle highly confidential financial and personal information with discretion.

  • Prepare and oversee significant account and consolidated bank reconciliations involving transactions over $500M annually authorize minor cash transactions and maintain organizational assets in accordance with policy.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Completion of university degree in Finance/ Accounting.

  • Two (2) years of experience in an accounting/finance environment.

  • Attention to detail problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

  • High quality Excel spreadsheet skills for handling large volumes of data (function knowledge specific to VLookups and index/match indirect trims left right mid substitute if statements with or/and logic)

  • Excellent knowledge of Word

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills are a must.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
