Job Summary

The Seasonal Interpreter Preprofessional supports educational and interpretive programming at district heritage sites through hands-on experience. This position will help share the history of DuPage County by conducting research assisting with program development delivering tours and activities and providing engaging guest experiences for visitors of all ages.

What Youll Do

  • Conduct historical research and compile information about the sites history and the Forest Preserve District.
  • Assist with the creation and delivery of educational programs tours and interpretive materials.
  • Lead guided tours and interactive activities for school groups day camps and general visitors.
  • Assist with care handling and presentation of historical artifacts.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting visitors and offering information or assistance.
  • Help maintain clean and organized program and visitor areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures to ensure a safe experience for staff and guests.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and positive work environment and perform other duties as assigned.

What Youll Need

  • 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in history education museum studies or a related field.
  • One season of experience working with children in an educational or recreational program or one season of museum interpretation or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Must have and maintain Illinois Mandated Reporter certification or obtain upon hire.
  • Must have and maintain CPR AED and First Aid Certification or obtain upon hire.
  • Knowledge of research methods using primary and secondary sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with collections management programs (PastPerfect) preferred.
  • Comfortable interacting with youth of varying age ranges.

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm.
  • $19 21 /hour.

Work Setting

  • This position starts in May/June and lasts until around August of 2026.
  • Based out of the district day camps at Kline Creek Farm and St. James Farm.
  • The position will be provided with historic clothing to wear but the employee will need to provide appropriate shoes.
