AECOMs Environment Team is actively seeking a Summer Ecologist Intern to join our Environmental Permitting and Planning Team in Winnipeg Manitoba. This position will integrate into a well-developed team of environmental scientists ecologists and engineers to provide support on various infrastructure and development projects across a range of sectors such as mining transport (road/rail) water/wastewater utilities renewable energy and oil and gas.
The position is expected to start on May 2026.
As an Ecologist Intern you will work under supervision to utilize scientific principles and existing technologies to assist with ecological assessments and environmental investigations. This role is ideal for someone eager to begin their career in ecology and environmental consulting while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting ecological field studies (e.g. characterizing terrestrial vegetation communities fish habitat assessments wildlife surveys) in Manitoba.
- Collect and record data from field studies ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Support the preparation of technical reports and environmental documents such as field summaries environmental assessments and mitigation plans.
- Work with project teams to comply with environmental regulations and standards.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling field programs and preparing meeting minutes.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining fieldwork equipment as needed.
- Follow safety protocols and quality control measures are followed in all aspects of fieldwork.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidate must be pursuing a post secondary degree (e.g. ) in Ecology Environmental Science Biological Sciences or similar discipline and must have completed at least two years of study.
- Valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with federal and provincial environmental regulations is a plus (e.g. The Environment Act; The Endangered Species and Ecosystems Act; Species at Risk Act).
- Experience conducting terrestrial species at risk surveys (e.g. plant surveys; bird surveys).
- Additional field experience such as aquatic sampling (e.g. water quality fish).
- Previous experience and training in the operation of all-terrain vehicles boats and snowmobiles.
- Willingness to travel for field work.
- Ability to be in the field for extended periods of time.
- Interest in ecological fieldwork environmental assessments and regulatory compliance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word; Excel; PowerPoint at minimum).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to work in both field and office environments.
