The New York City Comptrollers Office works to promote the financial health integrity and effectiveness of New York City government in order to strengthen trust secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers and build a more just equitable and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official the comptrollers office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely investing responsibly operating efficiently acting fairly living up to its obligations and promises and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together.
The Bureau of Labor Law sets and enforces the prevailing and living wage and benefit rates for workers laborers and mechanics employed on New York City Public Work projects as well as building service employees on City contracts and certain properties that receive tax exemptions in accordance with its mandate under state law. The goal of the Workers Rights Bureau is to build upon the work that the BLL already does to combat wage theft to expand workers rights and enforcement through legislation policy procurement and corporate shareholder engagement initiatives while strengthening the offices outreach strategies to educate New Yorkers on their labor rights.
The intern will work with the Legal Unit.
Responsibilities of the Legal intern include but are not limited to:
- Assist with Bureau of Labor Law prevailing wage enforcement including conducting legal research on labor law issues.
- Assist with preparing legal documents and interviewing workers.
- Perform other duties and assignments as may be required
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Matriculation at an accredited Law School. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Law degree program for the Fall 2026 semester.
IMPORTANT:
- Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building 1 Centre Manhattan/New York.
- All interns will work in-person in the office Monday Thursday 28 hours per week.
- The employment period will be from June 1 July 30 2026.
