About the Role
Fire Captain is a journey-level supervisory management position with significant field and administrative responsibilities relating to the planning and delivery of program services. This responsible and dedicated leader will play a vital role in supporting and implementing the Departments leadership expectations and professional standards.
Essential duties include responding to firesand emergency rescuesdesignatinga route to be taken to an emergency and orderingplacement of equipment directing fire control operations and personnel as well as supervising the return and servicing of equipment after calls. Tasks may also include administrative duties such as performance evaluationsassistingin coordinating Fire Department activities with other departments orjurisdictions attendingconferences and meetings to keep abreast of current trends in the fieldrepresentingthe City Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in local countystateand other positionmaywork a56-hourschedule or other work schedule as dictated by the needs of the Department.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position includeaminimum of five years firefighting experienceincludingcompletion of the probationary period as a Firefighter with the San Bruno Fire Departmentand certification as a Company Officer by the California Fire Service Training and Education System (CFSTES) or required classes and paperwork submitted to State Fire Marshals Office within one year of appointment.Candidates may have up to two years to complete certification after appointment; however probationary period will be extended until completed.
Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree or completion of 60 units of college credits including 24 units of courses related to fire science.Special requirements include possessionof and ability to maintain a valid California Class B drivers license or Class C drivers license with Firefighter Endorsement and possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license or State of California Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) license.
