TNC Asia Pacific is building a pipeline of high-integrity Nature Based Solutions and carbon projects to be supported by a new Singapore-based team. We are investing in feasibility assessments and transaction readiness to originate and accelerate high-quality nature-based carbon projects in Asia Pacific and beyond including a particular focus on Article 6-aligned nature-based projects in countries with Singapore implementation agreements.
The Carbon Technical Specialist will apply scientific rigor to the implementation of TNCs Article 6 Catalyst (A6C) a new program of work designed to help countries access high-integrity carbon finance under the Paris Agreement. The Accelerator aims to strengthen enabling environments build institutional capacity and catalyze investment in nature-based mitigation aligned with Article 6 principles. The Technical Specialist will also support other priority nature-based solutions projects within Asia-Pacific as appropriate.
This role directly contributes to TNCs mission to scale naturebased solutions strengthen enabling environments and catalyze investment in naturebased mitigation aligned with Article 6 principles across Asia Pacific and beyond.
The role is a 3-year fixed term to be based in Singapore. There is no sponsorship for relocation or support for immigration or visa processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Carbon Technical Specialist Article 6 Catalyst serves as a trusted advisor and technical resource to field programs worldwide in planning designing and implementing highintegrity carbon projects. The Specialist applies crossdisciplinary knowledge to inform strategic decisions and advance TNCs global climate and conservation goals. They lead feasibility assessments and project design; manage scientific inputs including carbon accounting and biodiversity studies; and design fitforpurpose Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV) and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks and systems to ensure transparency performance and adaptive management.
The Specialist will provide technical support to guarantee that projects meet TNCs criteria for high-quality high-integrity carbon credits. They apply science and spatial analysis to support feasibility assessments baseline setting carbon stock estimation leakage and risk mapping biodiversity assessments and monitoring; and may engage with Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) to support validation and verification processes facilitating exchanges of findings and responses with VVBs and carbon standards.
The role reports to the Associate Director for Climate Strategy Asia-Pacific with day-to-day supervision through the A6C Project Manager in Singapore in alignment with an agreed team structure. This role will collaborate with both TNC staff globally and partner organizations to bring promising ideas to fruition helping to address the triple crises of climate change biodiversity loss and equitable development.

Bachelors degree in natural science forestry geography conservation ecology or a related field and at least four (4) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Experience managing complex carbon projects or strategic initiatives at different stages of development (including project planning initiation implementation monitoring and closing) and compiling into cohesive reports and recommendations in an unstructured environment. Experience working for carbon standards VVBs and/ or carbon project developers.
Experience researching critically analyzing and evaluating information from divergent sources and synthesizing into actionable recommendations for strategy and action.
Demonstrated scientific knowledge of forest grassland and/ or wetland conservation/ restoration initiatives and/ or regenerative agriculture initiatives applied in carbon projects.
Demonstrated technical experience in evaluating designing and implementing nature-based carbon projects (Afforestation Reforestation and Revegetation Agricultural Land Management Improved Forest Management Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation Avoided Conversion of Grasslands and Shrublands and Wetlands Restoration and Conservation).
Familiarity with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement international carbon market projects or climate finance frameworks is highly desirable including knowledge of current trends and practices in carbon markets.
Demonstrated experience in MEL design and implementation for conservation or carbon projects. Experience integrating MEL data into adaptive management and reporting frameworks; ability to translate MEL insights into program improvements.
Proficiency in GIS tools (e.g. ArcGIS QGIS) and spatial analysis for landuse carbon modeling and risk mapping. Experience integrating remote sensing data with GIS for carbon accounting and MRV systems; familiarity with remote sensing platforms and digital MRV.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills and experience managing project teams and working with crossfunctional staff and diverse audiences; seen as an expert advisor by peers and partners; may mentor other individual contributors.
Multilingual skills and multicultural or crosscultural experience appreciated.
Written and verbal fluency in English.
