BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking a Group Leader (IF&W Resource Supervisor) within the Bureau of Resource Management to coordinate survey research and conservation efforts focused on reptiles amphibians small mammals and invertebrates especially those considered at-risk in Maines State Wildlife Action Plan (2015). This is a supervisory position responsible for group administration and developing group work priorities. The position is located within the Wildlife Diversity Section and is based in IF&Ws Augusta office.

Position duties include:

  • Serve as the Departments expert on the biology and conservation needs of Maines reptiles amphibians small mammals and nonmarine invertebrates.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to regional staff cooperating state partners and the general public.
  • Develop work program priorities based on national and state wildlife plans species status assessments and scientific literature.
  • Represent the Department on state and regional technical working groups and attend scientific meetings.
  • Provide timely review and approval of all staff-generated program reports environmental reviews and other work products.
  • Write review and evaluate research proposals administrative reports budgets recovery plans best management practices scientific reports and popular articles to advance scientific knowledge and public outreach and education goals.
  • Set work program priorities and performance measures for three team members and provide administrative support to improve group functionality.
  • Provide a supporting or lead role as a species expert for select taxa.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Department leadership.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology Fisheries or Wildlife Management or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferences will be given to candidates with an advanced graduate degree in wildlife biology or related field strong scientific and field knowledge of Maines nongame species and habitats and supervisory and management experience.
