Job Summary

Overview

The Maintenance Technician/HVAC is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repairs on building systems equipment and facilities to ensure a safe efficient and well-maintained learning environment. This role requires a skilled technical professional capable of diagnosing and resolving complex issues beyond the scope of entry-level technicians. This role will act as a co-lead for the Maintenance team and will also include managing some of the Facilities projects.

Key responsibilities include maintaining all operating equipment buildings and building systems supporting campus facilities and ensuring a safe and trouble-free environment for students faculty and staff. The Maintenance Technician works closely with the Assistant Director of Operations with a strong focus on preventive maintenance and delivering excellent customer service to the Touro University community. This position also ensures compliance with safety standards and supports operational continuity.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: those work assignments which are predominant regular and recurring.

Recurring Tasks:

o Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical equipment issues.

o Install electrical circuits safely and efficiently.

o Maintain sewer systems and perform repairs as needed.

    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC plumbing electrical and mechanical systems including emergency backup generators.

o Accurately log all preventive maintenance activities.

o Move and set up furniture as required for events or office changes.

o Assist the IT department with relocating audio-visual equipment when necessary.

Periodic Tasks:

o Inspect and maintain building infrastructure including lighting doors windows and flooring.

o Unclog drains and address minor plumbing issues

o Repair or replace doorknobs locks and other hardware.

o Replace appliances such as refrigerators stoves dishwashers and garbage disposals.

o Repair or replace leaky faucets toilets and other related plumbing fixtures.

o Perform roof repairs and maintenance.

    • Repair flooring and perform painting and minor concrete work.

o Maintain campus vehicles

Projects:

o Complete minor construction projects and install sprinkler systems across the campus.

o Stripe parking lots and maintain clear markings.

o Replace and maintain (re-lamping) in campus buildings and outdoor areas.

Qualifications

EDUCATION TRAINING AND/OR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Level 3 H.S. diploma or G.E.D.&/or job-related experience
  • Trade School &/or job-related experience

REASONING COMPETENCY:

  • Level 3 -
  • Ability to apply common sense of understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

LANGUAGE COMPETENCY:

  • Level 2: Intermediate/Applied Competency
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers students clients or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL COMPETENCY:

  • Level 2: Intermediate/Applied Competency

Level 2 is characterized by the ability to interpret and apply a range of mathematical methods to solve problems that require more than direct inference. Key abilities at this level typically include:

  • Algebraic Thinking:

Interpreting and using expressions including understanding terms factors coefficients and exponents.

Solving linear equations and inequalities.

Using variables to represent quantities in real-world or mathematical problems.

  • Rational Numbers and Proportions:

Performing operations with all rational numbers (including negative numbers).

Analyzing and solving problems involving proportional reasoning such as ratios rates scaling and unit conversions.

  • Geometry and Measurement:

Calculate perimeter area and possibly volume of basic geometric shapes.

Applying the Pythagorean theorem for unknown side lengths in right triangles or finding distances on a coordinate plane.

  • Data Analysis:

Extracting summarizing representing and interpreting data from multiple sources (e.g. tables various graphs and diagrams).

Understanding the concepts of probability.

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of carpentry electrical plumbing and mechanical skills.

OTHER TRAINING OR CERTIFICATION:

Valid California driver license. Preference is given to candidates who possess the EPA 608 Universal Certification

USD $75000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $60000.00/Yr.
