Job Summary

Description

The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral position in CMOS circuit design for spintronic-based computing. The position offers an exciting opportunity to join acutting-edgeresearch project focusing on the co-design of CMOS and spintronic devices for next-generation energy-efficient and non-von-Neumann computing architectures.

The project explores hybrid CMOSspintronic computing systemsleveragingemerging spin-based devices such as magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) to enable ultra-low-power non-volatile and scalable computing platforms. The research aims to develop CMOS interface circuits and system architectures that tightly integrate with spintronic devices for applications including in-memory computing neuromorphic computing and hardware acceleration for AI workloads.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher in CMOS Design you will playa central rolein the design simulation and validation of CMOS circuits enabling spintronic-based computing systems. You will work closely with device physicists and system architects to translate device-level characteristics into robust circuit- and system-level solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define specifications and requirements for CMOSspintronic interfaces in collaboration with project partners.
  • Design analog and mixed-signal CMOS circuits for driving sensing and reading spintronic devices.
  • Participatein the full IC design flow from architecture to schematic layout and verification.
  • Perform post-layout simulations and contribute to prototype validation and measurement activities.
  • Document design choices trade-offs and experimental results in high-quality publications.

The position offers the opportunity toestablishan independent research profile while collaborating closely with existing activities in CMOS circuit design neuromorphic computing cryogenic electronics and spintronic-based computing systems. The role also contributes to Denmarks and Europes strategic ambitions under the EU Chips Act and other similar programs.

The position is open fromJune 2026 and the specific start date will be agreed with the successful candidate.

What we offer

  • A stimulating research environment within SDU Microelectronics a growing section integratingexpertisein analog/digital IC design spintronics neuromorphic computing and energy-efficient system architectures.
  • Access to advanced facilities for design characterization and system prototyping.
  • Excellent opportunities for collaboration across SDU and with national and international academic and industrial partners in microelectronics photonics and quantum technologies.
  • Strong supportfor professional development through the Lecturer TrainingProgrammeand mentoring.
  • An open and collaborative research culture within SDUs Faculty of Engineering (TEK) promoting interdisciplinary innovation across electronicsmaterialsscience and artificial intelligence.

What we expect

Applicantsshould hold a PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (completed within the last 5 years) with strong experience in CMOS IC design.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong background in analog and/or mixed-signal CMOS circuit design.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence analog and mixed-signal design tools.
  • Experience in layout design and physical verification (DRC/LVS) using tools such asCalibre.
  • Interest or experience in emerging devices spintronics or non-volatile memory technologies.
  • Experience with digital IC design flows (GenusInnovus) is considered a plus.
  • Strongbackgroundinanalog IC design.
  • Hands-on experience in Cadence analog and mixed-signalICdesigntools.
  • Experienceinlayoutdesignand physical verifications
  • ExpertinCadenceDigitalIC design.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • All candidates mustdemonstrateexcellent verbal and written English skills along withvery goodcommunication abilities.

Workplace description

The successful candidate will join SDU Microelectronics a dynamic and expanding section at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME). The section conducts internationally recognized research in integrated circuits spintronics photonics and neuromorphic computing and playsa central rolein SDUs ambition to be a national and European hub for semiconductor and chip innovation.
