Job Summary

Industrial Quality Engineer
Purpose:
Colonnas Shipyard is seeking an Industrial Quality Engineer to support operations at our shipyard in Norfolk VA.
The Industrial Quality Engineer is responsible for problem analysis surveillance activities and new process development (including procedures Process Control Plans (PCPs) test results and training requirements). This role also conducts internal and external audits of the Quality Management System and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Description:
  • Develop Process Control Procedures and other required processes to meet contract and customer requirements.
  • Develop Test and Inspection Plans and Required Report Lists to meet contract requirements.
  • Develop Quality Plans as required.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints and discrepancies.
  • Create Quality Engineering reports.
  • Suggest and evaluate alternative methods and procedures to resolve problems.
  • Serve as a liaison with customers on quality-related issues.
  • Conduct and document inspections as required.
  • Perform internal and external audits as required.
  • Review the status of Corrective Action Requests (CARs) Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) and other quality issues; provide statistical data to meet ISO 9001 and contract requirements.
  • Provide additional quality services as requested by the Senior Manager of Quality Systems.
  • Develop document and audit practices program quality metrics and reporting systems.
  • Review and approve quality requirements for manufacturing planning supplier purchase orders and engineering specifications to ensure contract compliance.
  • Prepare document and execute detailed test plans test cases and defect reports.
  • Perform and coordinate inspections and determine appropriate quality assurance testing models for raw materials and finished products.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a Bachelors degree in Engineering or Business Management with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing engineering services or a technical field including at least five (5) years in a quality- or operations-related role.
  • Knowledge of quality techniques and systems including quality specifications and advanced quality systems.
  • Must be able to identify effective corrective actions using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis.
  • Must have knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal negotiation communication and writing skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Must have relevant Department of Defense experience including direct experience working with government customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to government installations (DBIDS).
Desired Qualifications:
  • NDT and/or welding certification or related knowledge preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit Stand Walk Bend Squat Climb Reach Push and Pull Stoop Crawl Kneel Balance Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
  • General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 30% of the time.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise dust etc Hear talk and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
