TRM Engineering tech lead

TRM Engineering is looking for a Principal Engineer / Technical Lead (Scale 18) to provide technical leadership across Trading Risk Management solutions. This role goes beyond individual delivery and focuses on scaling engineering excellence architectural coherence and predictable outcomes across multiple initiatives.

You will act as a technical authority and work closely with Product Management fellow engineers and stakeholders to deliver scalable secure and maintainable solutions aligned with INGs Tech strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Strategy Alignment

Design execute and deliver scalable technical architectures (Python) in close alignment with Product Management and the overall Tech vision

Work closely with the Product Owner / Product Area Lead to ensure feasibility of technical roadmaps

Actively align solutions with INGs Data & AI strategy ensuring ML-driven capabilities are production-ready and governed

Technical Leadership & Craftsmanship

Provide clear technical leadership and grow engineering craftsmanship within and across squads

Set and uphold standards with strong emphasis on:

API-first design and Hexagonal / Clean Architecture

Cloud-native development on Azure and Kubernetes

Automated CI/CD pipelines and progressive delivery strategies

High-quality engineering practices including TDD and rigorous code reviews

Mentor senior engineers and influence technical decision-making beyond your direct team

Data Platforms & Engineering at Scale

Lead the engineering of data- and AI-driven solutions bridging unstructured financial data and actionable insights

Organize for flow of delivery by orchestrating complex data pipelines (preferably GCP-based) and event-driven architectures (Kafka)

Drive the migration from legacy batch processes to real-time event-driven microservices

Delivery Reliability & Risk Ownership

Ensure predictable delivery of software and data products meeting commitments on quality security and timelines

Take accountability for reliable operation of IT assets (microservices and ML models)

Ensure SLOs are met using OpenTelemetry Prometheus and Grafana

Act as IT custodian for applications keeping IT risk within risk appetite

Strong focus on data contracts validation checks and control effectiveness

Efficiency Cost & Sustainability

Reduce infrastructure costs and operational complexity by actively monitoring and optimizing Kubernetes and cloud resource utilization

Balance innovation speed with operational stability and technical debt management

Ways of Working & Collaboration

Work in an Agile/Scrum environment with daily collaboration across disciplines

Organize work for effective flow of delivery in collaboration with Product Management and the team

Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Your Profile

Masters degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent experience

Strong architectural background with hands-on understanding of modern software and data platforms

Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and containerized environments (Kubernetes)

Experience operating in regulated environments where risk auditability and reliability are critical

Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating closely with Product and QA

Strong communication skills and ability to operate in a multicultural English-speaking environment

A mindset focused on ownership quality and continuous improvement

Additionally

Experience in financial services or risk-related domains

Experience with data-driven or analytical applications

Exposure to event-driven architectures or streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka)
