Job Summary
The Campus Police Officer (TCAT Jackson) is responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment protecting the assets and interest of the institution and enforcing laws policy and regulations. Officer performs a variety of police duties in patrolling assigned area on foot and by motor vehicle to detect crime and to arrest violators; patrolling parking lots and college buildings to ensure security and safety.
Job Duties
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet the requirements of TCAQualification of Police Officers.
Meet the requirements of a Certified Police Officer per TCA.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action.
Must be able to obtain a clear background check.
Must be Tennessee POST (Peace Office Standard & Training) Certified or have a law enforcement certification recognized and accepted by the POST Commission of TN or ability to become a P.O.S.T. certified within 6 months from hire date.
Must be physically morally and psychologically fit to meet the requirements of Peace Officer in the state of Tennessee.
Possess a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
Must be willing to work different shifts holidays and multiple locations if needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field
Working knowledge of Title IX as it relates to law enforcement the Clery Act and other federal and state campus safety rules and regulations
Experience working in a campus safety and security environment as well as knowledge of situations that are unique to college students events and functions
Experience in emergency management and safety preparedness in a higher education environment
Established relationships with local law enforcement agencies
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and public relations communication skills; ability to effectively communicate using written and verbal skills.
Basic computer proficiency is required.
Reasoning ability required in assessing best course of action for security or emergency situations. Requires knowledge of security policies and procedures as they pertain to campus policing.
Ability to ascertain facts by personal conduct observation and the evaluation of records.
Ability to explain and interpret pertinent provisions of laws ordinances and regulations.
Ability to enforce laws firmly and with respect for the rights of others.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Excellent skills in dealing with the public are required.
Quick situational thinking is often required.
Must be able to maintain professionalism at all times.
Must be able to exercise ethics and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to operate law enforcement equipment.
Basic knowledge of accident investigation as it pertains to applicable state and federal laws.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Pay Rate: $50000 - $52680 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
