Job Summary

Primary Purpose:

Supervise assigned department personnel to provide and maintain a safe clean learning environment for students staff and visitors.

Education / Certification:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Associates degree is preferred.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Knowledge of budget management public sector procurement inventory systems and controls.
  2. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  3. Knowledge of equipment chemicals and materials used in cleaning processes.
  4. Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and maintenance.
  5. Ability to organize to delegate and to supervise employees. Possess ability to work effectively with departmental supervisors and school administrators.
  6. Background in training and possess the ability to assist in the development and conduct training classes/sessions.
  7. Knowledge of general industry safety measures and working knowledge of a personal computer.
  8. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Minimum of five years of experience supervising custodial personnel.
  2. Possess a Texas Class C license with demonstrated safety record.
  3. Proficient in English (verbal and written skills).
  4. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Establishes and oversees schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all district facilities.
  2. Works cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to ensure a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency of building operations.
  3. Schedules and supervises summer custodial projects including cleaning and refinishing floors.
  4. Coordinates and facilitates the appropriate training of all new and existing custodial personnel
  5. Arranges for contract labor when work cannot be performed by district staff.
  6. Inspects all district buildings and facilities and initiates cleaning and repairs as needed.
  7. Estimates the cost and time required for special projects and order materials.
  8. Tests and recommends custodial supplies and equipment to be used.
  9. Instructs assigned personnel on proper and safe use of tools and equipment.
  10. Operates tools equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  11. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting climbing etc.
  12. Ensures that vehicles equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.
  13. Inspects and adjusts tools and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  14. Corrects unsafe conditions in work areas and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  15. Coordinates the storage and use of grounds equipment tools and supplies.
  16. Prepares implements and maintains preventive maintenance and repair procedures for equipment and tools.
  17. Orders equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.
  18. Recommends disposal of obsolete equipment and purchases replacement equipment when necessary.
  19. Conducts annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.
  20. Works irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  21. Assists in preparation of department budget.
  22. Consults as needed with District construction personnel on all new construction.
  23. Oversees the recruiting screening hiring training and evaluation of assigned employees.
  24. Maintains accurate information for payroll reporting (time cards tardiness and absenteeism).
  25. Develops standards and procedures for custodial operations / applications.
  26. Acts as a resource to facility administrators/head custodians in technical and administrative custodial areas.
  27. Schedules coordinates and conducts management assistance visits with facility administrators/head custodians to ensure District policies and procedures are followed and provide feedback on findings for corrective action.
  28. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  29. Other duties as Assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises assigned staff members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
