Postdoc Research Associate (Vector Neurogenetics and Behavior)
Job Summary
What We Are Looking For
Half of the worlds population is at risk for mosquito-borne diseases and mosquitoes rely heavily on their sensory systems to locate hosts mates egg-laying sites and sugar sources. The Raji Lab exploits this dependence to uncover the genetic neural and molecular mechanisms underlying mosquito behavior particularly in Anophelesdisease vectors.
The laboratorys research program aims to develop new genetic tools to study the neurobiology of mosquito behavior and identify genes and neural circuits that drive blood-feeding and other appetitive behaviors in malaria mosquitoes. To achieve these goals the lab uses CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing transcriptomics neurophysiology neuroanatomy RNA in situ hybridization functional imaging and behavioral assays.
What You Will Do
- Design execute and interpret independent research projects aligned with the labs core aims
- Develop and apply genetic neurogenetic and molecular tools in mosquitoes
- Lead experiments involving CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing transcriptomics and functional genomics
- Perform and analyze behavioral assays neurophysiology functional imaging and neuroanatomical studies
- Analyze complex datasets and integrate molecular neural and behavioral findings
