Summary

The financial analysts will provide support to a portfolio of programs including the research institute within the hospital as their financial liaison. They are responsible for the preparation and analysis of internal financial reporting balance sheet reconciliations required government financial reporting required granting agency financial reporting audit working papers assistance with the annual budgeting process and assistance with on-going grant budgeting process.

This position is a six month contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs budget and expense analysis periodic invoicing financial reporting reconciliations monitoring and associated communications with granting agencies.
  • Prepare grant closeout functions required by the Research Operations Office and external agencies including reconciliations financial status reports final invoices zeroing out budgets and final reporting.
  • Review general ledger transactions and prepare accurate and complete journal entries and supporting documentation to audit standard.
  • Assist Scientist Program Directors/Managers in budget preparation and maintenance by clarifying financial information for them providing advice and guidance and resolving any issues they may have regarding their financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare government and granting agencies financial statements as required and answer any follow-up questions from the particular agency
  • Maintain assigned balance sheet accounts by reconciling accounts monthly investigating any discrepancies and preparing any adjusting journal entries to ensure that balance sheet accounts are accurate
  • Support scientist and program managers via the preparation of detailed financial analyses and/or business analysis
  • Prepare and provides analysis of system generated information with respect to efficiency and effectiveness of Financial processes
  • Lead and/or participate in other Special Projects.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff clients and families.
  • Assist in the on-going maintenance of the Adaptive/Meditech system by providing input and participating as a team member as required
  • Assists in developing internal accounting controls and policy and procedure for accounting functions
  • Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices and information system operation as required through a University graduation in Business Administration or Commerce
  • CPA or working towards CPA designation is an asset

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years financial experience including accounting budgeting and financial analysis in a computerized environment.
  • Preparation of complex financial statements
  • Knowledge of Hospital and/or Research financial accounting requirements and reporting structure would be an asset
  • Experience planning and developing reporting relying on large data set or data repositories

Skills

  • Ability to work independently on complex and diversified projects with general guidance
  • Analytical planning and organizational skills and the ability to identify problems and exercise sound judgement in recommending solutions
  • Excellent communications both oral and written and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate/ Advanced Microsoft products
  • Ability to work and understand the information systems and data flows.

  • Propensity to learn and master an industry and technology
