Job Summary

Summary

You will serve as a SECURITY GUARD in the Commander Navy Installation Command (CNIC) Navy Activity.

The salary range for GSis $47490.00 to $61738.00.
The salary range for GSis $42446.00 to $55183.00.


Duties

  • You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts buildings private property or restricted areas.
  • You will maintain security equipment to confirm proper working order and functionality.
  • You will access a personal identification system to issue vehicle passes and identification badges.
  • You will maintain radio communications with other patrol units or posts while providing continuous security of designated areas and buildings.

  • Generally current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760 Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • Candidates for LEO positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Information on exceptions and waivers can be found: will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760 Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD) the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born aftermust be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

For the GS-05:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-04) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access
2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials
3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity
4) Maintaining desk logs desk journals and pass-down logbooks to document security events


For the GS-04:
Your resume must demonstrate six months of general experience performing administrative technical clerical military or other work that involved following written procedures rules or regulations in contacts with coworkers supervisors or members of the public to provide a service respond to inquiries or obtain information AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire theft damage accident or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques.

In lieu of general/specialized experience you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

For the GS-04:
Successful completion of at least two full academic years of education above high school
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour including nights weekends and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.

Military Spouse Preference applicants will receive priority consideration at the Full Performance Level (FPL) and if determined to be Best Qualified at the FPL and selected must be placed at the FPL.
