Summary
The Tax Senior is a vital member of Simplots Tax Department contributing to the accuracy completeness and timeliness of Simplots tax compliance and reporting processes. This position is responsible for preparing detailed workpapers to support tax compliance preparing federal and state income tax returns and assisting in the domestic income tax provision process. The Tax Senior will also manage the tax fixed asset processes and collaborate with the fixed asset accounting team to ensure the proper application of depreciation methods and useful lives. Additional duties include monitoring tax law researching tax issues and responding promptly to tax notices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills an ability to work independently with limited supervision and a commitment to enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of current processes.
Key Responsibilities
As a Tax Senior in Simplots Tax Department your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Prepare and review federal state and local corporate income tax returns.
- Manage tax fixed asset processes including tax depreciation methods/lives tax bonus depreciation coordination with fixed asset accounting team and JDE/SAP system maintenance.
- Prepare detailed workpapers to support federal and state income tax compliance including book to tax adjustments state apportionment and quarterly estimates.
- Support the annual domestic income tax provision process through preparation of tax adjustments and deferred tax calculations.
- Monitor and analyze domestic tax law changes and quantify the impact on Simplots operations and cash flow.
- Research and prepare responses to tax notices.
- Assist with special tax projects including ERP implementation mergers and acquisitions.
Typical Education
- BA/BS in Accounting or Tax required; Masters degree a plus.
Relevant Experience & Qualifications
Successful candidates for this position will have:
- 2-5 Years of public accounting or large corporate tax experience (CPA a plus).
- Strong knowledge of federal and state corporate tax laws and regulations (specific industry knowledge a plus).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and tax software applications; experience with SAP/CFIN is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with OneSource Income Tax is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in problem resolution.
- Skilled in managing competing priorities with effective organizational abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across various functional areas.
