The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. The duties described by this position may not fully meet the type of work to be performed or there may be work that this position does not do in each of the specialties; however if the general intent is met then this position is appropriate.
Position will assist in the trades areas of carpentry painting plumbing electrical and masonry depending on project. The selectee of this position leads a crew of lower-level co-workers (laborers) involved in the construction repair and upkeep of government facilities buildings boundary fences roads culverts corrals and trails. Duties will include but not be limited to window repair and replacement door repair and replacement patching walls and ceilings roof repair and replacement fixture replacement plumbing repair or replacement floor installation siding repairs interior and exterior preparation painting insulating and general home maintenance. The selectee receives oral and written instructions from the General Foreman and is responsible for safely and efficiently carrying out the assigned duties and completing daily work reports. The selectee operates and maintains equipment and vehicles like farm style tractors bobcat skid steers backhoes pickup with trailers air compressors pneumatic hammers plate compactors pneumatic and steel faced compactors motorized brooms snow plows and pressure washers. Selectee also digs holes mixes and pours concrete installs drainage pipe cleans culverts and auto gates. Uses and instructs laborers in the use of hand tools such as hammers rakes shovels post hole diggers wire stretchers axes saws and wrenches. This position requires heavy physical effort to haul materials and equipment to work locations. Selectee will often work on ladders and scaffolding and will frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds or more continually walking bending stooping reaching pulling and pushing. The work is both indoors and outdoors and may be in temperatures up to 100 degrees and as low as negative 10 degrees in windy snowy conditions. Work is sometimes performed in backcountry mountainous terrain that is uneven steep and rocky. As needed the selectee may also work on road projects pick up litter dig ditches load / unload supplies furniture mow lawns re-seed roadsides and repair trails and conduct or participates in safety meetings Job Hazard Analysis developing job SOPs to insure safe work processes are being followed.

Accordingly non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402b7) based on series and grade anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period you are still welcome to apply. However please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours unless granted an exception by OPM.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury.
