Department Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is integral to the healthcare education and research missions at OHSU. We provide clinical services at OHSU hospitals and collaborate with the Veterans Affairs Portland Health Care System (VA) Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health. We specialize in providing excellent perioperative care and anesthesia services to our patients using state-of-the-art technology and pharmacologic tools with an emphasis on patient safety. Our departments research program is robust. We have an active clinical research division. It covers a wide range of areas with a special focus on patient safety and pain management. Our basic science division has labs at both OHSU and the VA. Attending physicians fellows residents and medical students work collaboratively with Ph.D. scientists in our labs to advance human health. This division is focused on neuroscience and renal physiology.

A half-time Research Data Analyst 3 position is currently open in the OHSU Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine within the Moss Lab. This role provides the opportunity to participate in varied qualitative and quantitative data analysis programming database development database management as well as data visualization and interpretation. Data modalities in vivo imaging data from mice tabulated and video behavioral data and static images.

The Moss Lab is dedicated to unraveling the processes through which the nervous system transforms sensory information into perceptual experiences that influence pursuit of this mission we employ an advanced array of systems neuroscience methods in mouse models. These methodologies include viral and genetic manipulations in vivo imaging electrophysiology and behavioral assays. Our objective is to delineate the functioning of specific neural circuits from sensory input to behavioral output.

This 0.5 FTE flexible hybrid in-person/remote position involves a variable mix of database and analysis pipeline development and management. This position is goal oriented with the primary objectives being (1) developing a database for multimodal in vivo imaging and behavior data (2) developing a pipeline for image processing involving motion correction and automatic segmentation of regions of interest at multiple scales (3) developing a comprehensive analysis pipeline for in vivo imaging and behavior data.

Qualifications:

  • Strong programming and computational skills PhD in a quantitative discipline is preferred.
  • Willingness to contribute to collaborative projects and work with lab members to adapt data storage/processing/analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve defined goals.
  • Curiosity about neurobiological research and participation in lab meetings.
  • High engagement strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Candidates do not need specific knowledge of specific experimental techniques as background will be provided by Dr. Moss and lab members where needed. Experience working with video timeseries biological data is helpful. The optimal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to several ongoing projects and will be able to work in concert with lab members developing novel experimental procedures while exercising a large amount of autonomy to accomplish overarching goals.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant field OR
  • Masters degree AND 4 years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelors degree in relevant field AND 6 years of relevant experience

Additional Details

Work schedule is flexible but ideally weekdays 9am - 5pm or 10am - 6pm. Must be in person at least 80% of the time for all hands-on experimental work including data acquisition. Willingness to work with mice in a laboratory setting.
