John Peter Smith Hospital Occupational Therapist - Rehabilitation Services Acute/IP Productivity is 12 patients/day Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist evaluates and executes Occupational Therapy plan of care for patients in order to prevent illness and disability and restore function following and injury or illness. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: Helps patients reach their maximum functional levels by utilizing techniques to improve physical health prevocational skills homemaking skills activities of daily living educational recreational and social activities. Addresses associated sensorimotor cognitive and psychosocial components. Designs and constructs splints and adaptive equipment and devices as necessary. Documents patient care and charges. Provides leadership and direction for support staff and Occupational Therapy students. Participates in professional development and continuing education to ensure compliance with licensure laws. Performs related tasks as needed to insure effective delivery of Occupational Therapy Services. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: Bachelor s Science degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University. Current licensure by Texas Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Preferred Qualifications: 1 plus years experience as an Occupational Therapist. Knowledge Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of customer service principles. Knowledge of the skills necessary to provide care of service appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit. Skill in the use of the hospital and Radiology Information Systems. Ability to exhibit consistent professional attitude required to serve as role model. Ability to concentrate amidst distraction. Ability to analyze data draw conclusions and make decisions Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and manage time effectively. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor to both internal and external customers and to promote good interpersonal relationships. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing sitting walking reading writing talking use of computer. Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems and person to person. Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens forms and other printed materials and information. Manual and tactile dexterity for palpation use of computer keyboard/typing writing handling/ sorting objects and forms. Flexibility and body movement for bending crouching walking kneeling standing reaching lifting and moving objects and equipment (approximately 25lbs. or more with assistance). Able to meet physical demands of the job with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations. Work Environment Work is indoors and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours and /or overtime hours and/or occasional weekend hours on short notice. Local travel to duties may be performed at multiple sites. Exposure to environment temperature changes hazardous/noxious fumes fetid smells air/blood borne pathogens such as HIV Hep. B TB and other contagious diseases. Environment is noisy involves frequent interruptions or distractions. Duties subject to stressful pressures and deadlines.
