Job Summary

Summary

The Registered Nurse Clinical Educator demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts cognitive skills and technically competent practice while providing staff education. The Clinical Educator also delivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and a lifelong learner that can practice with flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of learning needs within the healthcare organization.


Duties

The Registered Nurse Clinical Educator is responsible for providing competent evidence-based education to staff. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Clinical Educator understands instructional design implementation and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization.

Major Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Conducts the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior training program to include conducting classes creating and maintaining course schedules observing delegate trainer performance monitoring training compliance with VA directives and completing regular reports on program status. The incumbent collaborates with and raining and contributes to the Disruptive Behavior Committee for the annual workplace assessment. The incumbent conducts mock code exercises for Veterans in distress provides feedback on staff response(s) and works to improve staff proficiency in de-escalation.
  • Serves as a trainer and consultant for Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program including certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor.
  • Monitors and tracks BLS/Advanced Life Support (ALS) compliance within the organization.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to support and evaluate responses to emergency responses in the facility to include BLS and ALS.
  • Organizes participates and evaluates mock codes.
  • Supports nurse residency programs including the development of curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation lecture case studies and virtual reality.
  • Develops proficient level coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Systematically evaluates current practice formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise.
  • Collaborates with other Clinical Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in the ongoing clinical education activities including in-services training competency assessment and evaluations of both current and new staff nursing skills.
  • Reviews current nursing literature for new trends and changes based on evidence-based research with the ability to propose practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes.
  • Collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff while supporting activities that foster competence critical thinking and decision making.
  • Provides consultation and collaboration through the participation within organizational committees.
  • Ability to analyze interpret and evaluate data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs.
  • Leads professional practice using the nursing process (assessment diagnosis outcome identification planning implementation and evaluation) to improve evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes for an identified patient population and/or specialized areas within immediate practice setting.
  • Improves Veteran/patient-driven care by optimizing the patient experience satisfaction and/or safety for the immediate practice setting.
  • Communicates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team at the expert level with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes for the immediate practice setting.
  • Expands knowledge base and practice evaluation through mentoring precepting and/or teaching to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting.
  • Leads the integration of evidence-based practice/research with clinical expertise to improve quality of care and resource utilization and improve outcomes for the immediate practice setting.

    Preferred Experience: Training others on clinical competencies general classroom training prevention and management of disruptive behavior CPR Simulation and evidence based practice research.

The work is primarily in a classroom medical site or clinical training site. Some work may require walking or standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at. Stamina concentration visual acuity keen hearing clear distinctive speech and manual dexterity are required. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking standing stooping sitting kneeling bending pulling and pushing. Use of fingers both hands and near and far vision is required.
