COREJOB SUMMARY

TheAdvanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. TheAPRNis alsoexaminesand treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention diagnosis treatment and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests.Advisespatientsaboutcontinuing care.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic testsrelativeto patients age-specific needs.

  • Prescribesappropriate pharmacologicand non-pharmacologic treatment modalities

  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain ormaintainphysiologic stability.

  • Assistswith the provision of carein accordance withfacility state and federal regulations.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

  • Facilitates the patients transition within and between health care settingse.g.admitting transferring and discharging patients.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by makingappropriate referrals.

  • Facilitates staffpatientand family decision making by providing educational tools.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

COREQUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Masters degreein relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid State of Florida APRNLicense

  • May hold DEA License ifdeemednecessary andappropriate bydepartment.

  • Holds current and valid ACLS and BLS Certification from an American Heart Association approved vendor

Experience:

  • Minimum2years of relevant experience

KnowledgeSkillsand Attitudes:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyzeorganizeand prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and writtenform.

Department Specific Functions

For day shift positions:

  • Core schedule is Monday through Friday.

  • Shifts range from 8-12 hours depending on assignment.

  • Works collaboratively with attending on medical team and/orEDasnecessary.

  • Rounds with MD orindividually asassigned.

  • Bills for visits if assigned.

  • Admits patients as necessary duringdurationof shift.

  • Receives transfers (ICU/procedures) and coordinates floor assignments.

  • Acts as a liaison with floor nursing staffpromotesnursing critical thinking and scope of practice.

  • Collaborates with Care Coordination (Social Work CaseManagementand Discharge Planning).

  • Coordinates discharge efforts for medical team andensuresall discharge needs are met.

  • Answers to Rapid Responses (Code Rescue) and Code Blues called for assigned patients.

  • Collaborates with administration in process improvement activities.

  • Collaborates with departmental initiatives toleveragehiring practices to promote equity amongst the

  • Department (may be asked to joinNPHiringCommittee).

  • RemovesCentral Venous Catheters/Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters/Midlines (if trained to do so).

  • RemovesTemporary Dialysis Catheters (if trained to do so).

  • Removes stitches from tracheostomies and percutaneous gastrostomy feeding tubes.

  • Removeschest tubes (if trained to do so).

  • Cross coverage for night shift if necessary.

  • May beto work during inclement weather and respond to catastrophiceventsas necessary.

For night shift positions:

  • Core schedule is 14 shifts/month. (12-hourshifts).Monday through Sunday (7 days on/7 days off).

  • Maintains flexibility in scheduletoensure all shifts at night are staffed.

  • Performs floor night coverage of medical teams as assigned.

  • Answers assigned team phone for entirety of shift.

  • Maintains record of floor calls and delivers morningsign outto teamsdaily.

  • Admits patients overnight toappropriate medicalteams in collaboration with night Attending.

  • Receives transfers (ICU/procedures) and coordinates floor assignments.

  • Acts as a liaison with floor nursing staffpromotesnursing critical thinking and scope of practice.

  • Collaborates with Care Coordination (Social Work Case Management and Discharge Planning) if necessary.

  • Answers to Rapid Responses (Code Rescue) and Code Blues called for assigned patients.
