Central Virginia Veterans Healthcare System (CVHCS) in Fredericksburg Virginia is recruiting for an outpatient board-certified or board-eligible PM&R physician at a new state-of-the-art community-based outpatient clinic that opened in February 2025.
Core clinical scope
Provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions such as spine disorders peripheral joint problems soft-tissue injuries and degenerative joint disease.
Manage neuromuscular and general neurologic rehabilitation issues including peripheral neuropathies radiculopathies and functional deficits after neurologic injury.
Deliver ongoing stroke rehabilitation in the clinic including spasticity management mobility and ADL optimization durable medical equipment needs and coordination with PT/OT/SLP
Procedures and technical skills
Perform and interpret electrodiagnostic studies (EMG and nerve conduction studies) for a broad spectrum of neuromuscular and radicular disorders generating concise clinically useful reports.
Perform peripheral joint and soft-tissue injections (e.g. intra-articular bursal tendon sheath and trigger point injections) with or without ultrasound guidance to treat painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Coordinate care within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team that may include PT OT SLP psychology nursing and social work to maximize patient function and quality of life.
Develop goal-directed function-focused treatment plans that integrate therapeutic exercise assistive devices and community-based resources for long-term disability management.
Possess general knowledge of outpatient spinal cord injury management including bowel/bladder programs spasticity equipment needs and prevention of secondary complications.
Have familiarity with basic pressure-injury prevention and wound care principles in the SCI population; more advanced wound management experience is welcomed but not required for the role.
Practice in an ambulatory setting with primarily non-surgical management of pain and functional limitations emphasizing restoration and optimization of function rather than procedural volume alone.
Use evidence-based guidelines and best practices in PM&R to guide diagnostics procedures and rehabilitation plans including appropriate use of imaging electrodiagnostics and injections.
Clinical focus remains on high-quality evidence-based rehabilitation care using modern equipment and facilities dedicated to Veterans
