You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the RADIATION HEALTH DIVISION RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE in the Yokosuka Detachment of PSNS and IMF.
- You will conduct inspections and surveillances of operations performed by other organizations to determine compliance with requirements and determine and recommend appropriate corrective action concerning deficiencies identified.
- You will prepare and evaluate reports of investigations analyses and surveys to provide assessments conclusions and recommendations of programchanges/modifications to fulfill the objectives of the Radiation Health Division.
- You will work jointly or independently on special health physics projects which range both in complexity and scope from practical problems to projectsinvolving applied research.
- You will develop calibration procedures perform calibrations of the equipment evaluate the necessity for and recommend additional equipment/facilities to improve the effectiveness of Radiation Health Division operations.

- This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI 1400.25 V1230: position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- If eligible for permanent change of station the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
- May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas countrys laws/regulations.
- You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour including nights weekends and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
FOR GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: preparing reports evaluating analyzing inspecting consulting developing and implementing radioactive data and equipment for propulsion plant program and other programs (e.g Industrial Radiation Health medical health physics assessments and special health physics projects).
FOR GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Basic Requirements:
Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics engineering radiological science chemistry physics biology mathematics and/or calculus.
or
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
